Way to get girls (?!): the new column for the new Dragon.

In my opinion the article is a complete and utter waste of space and time. I'm not sure what language it is written in, but it is definitely not English.

This type of 'writing' is, in my experience, one of the reasons why quite a lot of the rest of the world regard the average American as very lacking in education.

...so it wasn't just me...but it had its moments. I don't know if I really look forward to the next one, but I will probably read it.

The only thing that did for me was teach me to not bother reading similar articles in future issues.

Ah well, even back in the 80's when I was a Dragon subscriber, there were sometimes articles that I didn't enjoy. At least I didn't pay for this one.

I like this, though it seems a bit weird for Dragon content (D&D meets The Princess Diaries?). (I seemed to have missed out on Wil Wheaton.) I'd like to see this column continue, but I think it'd make more sense on the free site, especially if it's trying to recruit new players. This is a lot less annoying than previously public articles like Design & Development, Save My Game, Realmslore, and Web Enhancements ending up in the DDI, though.

I thought it was a fun piece to read. I'm not sure I'd want to read something like this EVERY issue, but it's nice to see things from a different perspective now and then.

And it's not like I have to like EVERYTHING they put out.

One reason among many old chap. One reason among many.

I couldn't make it through the column. The whole chirpy, banal tone of the thing is like all the most annoying office conversations I've ever had condensed into a single monologue of sheer pointlessness.

I quite agree - if I gave a damn about what she was wearing and was interested in prattle I would be reading an issue of Heat not Dragon!

"Whatever!"

I have trouble believing that diary-like writing styles are one of the reasons people think we lack education. Other nations do in fact have informal writing.

Some of the people in this thread are coming across like the philistines who claimed Shakespeare was crap for the ignorant poor. Not saying that Shelly is the second coming of Shakespeare or anything, but the reasoning is the same. Choice of writing style stems from one's goals in writing. I think the diary style was an excellent choice for a piece who's goal seems to be to entertain, tangentially discuss a fear of change, mention something interesting about dungeon master style, and conclude with a joke about brownies.

Get used to it, it is under "columns", which I assume means it is a regular feature. It didn't do anything for me - this is the kind of thing I expect to see in a weekly blog (with other stuff on the other days), not as a column in Dragon.

I think with the new Dragon there's going to be less of a difference between the two than you think there is.
