I was thinking this over tonight as I bought Gladius for the Gamecube. My apologies if this has been touched upon in the past, but...

If you happen to own more than one of the video game consoles do you have a favorite when games come out for all the platforms?

I own all 3 consoles, and for me Ive been leaning lot to the Gamecube lately. It supports Dobly Prologic and usually as a bit better graphics than the PS2. But the main reason is the Wavebird, quite possibly the greatest peripheral devised by mortal man.

If I had more than one console, I'd favor the XBox, because of the HDTV out. The Dolby Digital is nice too, but I haven't hooked up my surround sound in four years, so it doesn't matter much to me. I also like the huge hard disk...I never have to worry about save games. Three years later (or whatever it's been), I still haven't put a dent in the free disk space.

Eh, not really. I personally like the PS2's controller the best, only because it seems to make my hands ache the least (I injured one hand many years ago, shattering some of the bones in the palm of my right hand.... good thing I'm left-handed :)). Really though, I don't have the high-end equipment to really make any differences in sound or graphics between the three systems noticeable. Usually I'll try and pick up the PS2 one though unless there's a large difference in graphics... habit, I guess, I've had the PS2 longest.

The Xbox, because:

a) it has a hard drive, so I don't have to worry about mucking with my PS2's memory card (which is close to full)

b) it has a hard drive, which most developers use to cache part of the game, making it load much faster than the PS2

c) for driving games, I like the Xbox controller much better, as it has analog triggers

d) for driving games, it has a hard drive, which should let developers add custom soundtrack support (though many are lazy and don't). While it's true I could just listen to the stereo, it's much easier to listen through the Xbox, since I have a ton of music on it and I don't have to mess with cds.

e) The DVD drive in my PS2 sounds like it's dying

And of course, the graphics are generally better on the Xbox. Not much, because most multi-platform games are developed with the least common denominator in mind (the PS2) so there isn't much of a difference. But...

xbox.

1. generally slightly better graphics. This is a fairly minor issue to me though.

2. I prefer the xbox controller, the PS2 is a close second here, but its too small. But hey I prefer the 4 triggers to the white and black button placement. Though analog trigers are cool for the xbox.

3. customizable sound tracks on some games thanks to the hard drive. music is a personal opinion and all the that crap, but god some games have music that's just painful to listen too. I never would of played Streets of La all the way through on any other system becuase the music sucked so hard. It wasn't just rap which isn't on my list of favorits genre's it was rap that I hated to the core of my being.

(note to game designers every where. Focussing to exclsuion on one genre of music is retarded, you are going to find there are lots of people out there who don't like the crap you listen to no matter what genre that happens to be. I rather suspect rap fanatics would get rather sick of my selection of they might be giants, oingo boingo, cake and other favs of mine)

4. hard drive makes faster loading, and no worries abot how much room is left on my little save thingy.

X-Box, for all the reasons Shard mentioned, and one other: I prefer to support the X-Box just to encourage more developers to do so.
