Weapon Proficiencies [speculate]

Verys Arkon

First Post
With the Warlord excerpt we now know that weapons will be grouped into simple melee, simple ranged, military melee, and presumably a military ranged (plus additional categories?). Also, from the Rogue article we know special lists of specific weapons might exist for certain classes.

Which classes would you speculate get which weapon proficiencies?

SMP=simple melee proficiency
SRP=simple ranged proficiency
MMP=military melee proficiency
MRP= military ranged proficiency

Cleric:
Fighter:
Paladin:
Ranger:
Rogue: Dagger, hand crossbow, shuriken, sling, short sword
Warlock:
Warlord: SMP, SRP, MMP
Wizard:

I wonder if that is as far as it goes, or if there will be 2 more categories (EMP & ERP) for exotic weapons. The concept still works, though I'm not a huge fan of it.

From a screenshot of the Character generator, we know that exotic is now listed as "Superior". The rapier & katana were both listed as superior weapons.

I'm willing to bet that the Rogue still just gets the proficiencies we've been shown. I know people will miss sneak attacking with a greatsword, but the revealed rogue proficiencies just feel...right. I bet the Ranger gets SRP, MRP, and SMP.

Count me in with the people who doubt they've changed the rogue. The Warlord would have too long a list to list them all, so they went with broad categories. Expect the fighter, ranger, and paladin to also have broad category proficiencies, and the Wizard to have even less than the rogue.

I also doubt that the Rogue's weapon list has changed. I am pretty sure that it will stick with the limited weapon list it used in the preview. It is just the same as it was in 3E in this regard, with some classes having whole categories of weapons and others having specific lists, so I don't think the sudden appearance of weapon categories in the proficiency lists of the Warlord means anything has changed.
