Divine magic va.arcane isn't really a thing in D&D at this point, Paladin are not mechanically tied to gods.

True, but that doesn't mean you have to like it! In my games a cleric get's their power from a god and can loose it if they displease their good. I'm a bit old school in that way.

and its reactive boosts and emphasis on positioning and action economy are nice features that give it flavoursome niche
