Been there, yes it sucks! Now that your wife had her car stolen after leaving it running, etc... I hope she will now steadastly turn it off, roll up the windows, and lock the doors, no matter how "quickly" she will be back. A car thief only needs 30 seconds without it being left running.

My wife's cousin's wife (if that ain't too confusing) left her car running for less than 60 seconds to pick up something at her aunt's, the second she entered the house, the sound of squeeling tires caused her to jump back out.

The car (brand new) was gone.

Leaving a car running is like putting up a giant "STEAL ME PLEASE" sign.

Hopefully everything will work out.

Yikes dude, that blows... however, it was extremely nice of your mom with the used car-ness :)

heck yeah, and i better not ever hear the phrase "who would want to steal this piece of :):):):)" ever again, or my head will pop off. ;)

Dang, BOZ. That sucks. I hope the cops can find your wife's things, if not the car.

well, actually, they did find her purse! they brought it back to us last night (sans digital camera, sigh). who knows, we might actually get some of our other less-valuable things back!

heck yeah! which is exactly why you don't do that. :) of course, even the cop who brought back the purse admitted that she does that too - but being a cop doesn't mean your civilian car won't get stolen. ;)

That's good that Mrs. BOZ got her purse back. Here's hoping you get more back. :)

i wouldn't be surprised if the cops find the car in a few weeks with the stroller, books, and board games, but no battery, radio or tires. ;) actually, finding the purse at all makes it seem more likely to me that this will happen.

wow

Sorry to hear about that.

One hears of these things happening but always says that won't be me. Maybe we all need to rethink that a bit. I live in a very rural part of Vermont. I lock regularly out of habit from the constableship my father had. My wife however never locks the car even when shopping which scares me a bit.

though some places have a higher risk, it truly can happen anywhere. i mean, she left the car unlocked nearly every day, left the car running like she did last weekend dozens of times, and it took owning the car for over three years in chicago for someone to finally take it. ;) your wife's car could be stolen tomorrow - but it probably won't be.
