Yeah I'm in the RC camp. There's just something special about rolling up an Elf. Period.

It was a fun system, and different enough that it will feel like a completely different game. But I'm also suggesting you just play in the known world. I loved that setting.

The Cyclopedia has an elegance, like finely tooled Italian leather. In my personal opinion, 2nd Edition was an attempt at complexity for its own sake, while the RC has decptive simplicty of form that hides a powerful and versitile engine.

Man, so far RC D&D is bitch-slapping AD&D 2e all over the place! But it ain't over till it's over, and all that...

It's 11:00 am, PST. Poll closes at 9:45 pm.

no, you are confusing it. that is d02. d02 covered it in lye and salt and nuked the spot so no life would ever rise again from the same place.

Nope, no confusion at all. I know what I'm talk about. it was a series of "Complete" books, then the "Player's Option" books. They made me not want to play the game at all. It was the announcement of d20 that brought me back to the game (although I did come back playing 2e for a little while at the tail end of it's sorry life).

Ok, I'm in the minority by looks of it. I'd suggest 2nd ed AD&D.

Me too...I went from with old boxed set with the Dragon on it to 1e to Players Option rules to 3e so I ever had experience with the Rules Cyclopedia.

Same as me. I jumped from the basic D&D box sets straight to 1st ed and then through 2nd, to 30, to 3.5

It's 3:00 pm, PST, and the poll closes in 6 hours and 45 minutes.

If you love or respect RC D&D OR AD&D 2e, then please vote!

We've had 85 voters thus far, and we're hoping for *at least* an even 100.

Thanks to everyone who has participated thus far!

Given those two choices, RC. I'm not a big fan of some ot the optional rules like skills and weapon mastery and I don't like the focus on the super-high levels, but as a whole I like it much better than 2e.

Why would your dislike of the optional rules be a problem with the RC? That's the beauty of optional rules -- you can ignore them.

Personally, I really like some of them, and dislike others. But I'm glad that they're all there.

More generally, it is nice to see all this love for the RC in this thread!
