What actors/actresses get a raw deal in Hollywood?

As far as I'm concerned, Sean Bean could play a leading role in a film - but aside from the Sharpe TV films, all he's been able to get it seems is supporting roles - Boromir, the hero's partner in Equilibrium, the villain in Goldeneye, etc.

But damn, his Boromir was awesome.

Keira Knightley, not being nominated for Pirates of the Caribbean was pretty harsh also

... well...

... I mean, I'm as big a Pirates fan as anyone. I walked out of the cinema the first time saying "Johnny Depp is God!".

... but...

... Keira Knightley?

... an Oscar nomination?

... for Elizabeth?

... um.

Wait, Keira Knightley acts? I couldn't hear anything while she was on screen. Just this dull, rushing sound.

Wh gets a raw deal? I'll tell ya! Malcom McDowell! Have they taken him seriously since... well, Clockwork Orange. They put him in Wing Commander III... in Hydrosphere... in Firestarter II... that man gets no 'spect!

Wing Commander III was a better movie than the theatrical release with Freddy Prinze Jr and Saffwon Buwwowes.

I like Tcheky Karyo. But that was an awful movie.

I imagine that would be many people’s thoughts... lucky I'm not one of them. :D

In all seriousness I've seen the movie a few times now and next to Deep’s Knightley does the best acting in it. :)

Besides I've seen far worse acting get nominated but I don't fallow the Oscars that much so what do I know? :)

I guess this is about movies mostly, but I have to pimp Lucy Lawless as probably THE most underrated actress ever on TV.

Seeing the range, and at times subtlety she brought Xena to life with over the course of the many storylines was truly amazing.

and yes, I'm deadly serious.

P.S. Mistwell - AFAIK, Christian Bale is very well known as a great actor.
Him putting forth one of the best child performances ever (in Empire of the Sun) would tend to do that...

William H. Macy, hands down.

I think that guy is a modern Jimmy Stuart, an amazing talent.

The Rock. Call me crazy, but he's a pretty good Arnold substitute, and I think he deserves more credit than he gets.

When he is on SNL, it just cracks me up. He has charm and charisma and I think he could do/is capable of so much more.

I thought she was great, too. The material really hampered her--it was the same stuff every week, or soooooooo out there that no one could have pulled it off. But starting with "Is There a Doctor in the House?" (final episode of season 1), she had a few scripts that really let her shine.

I also thought she made a better Callisto than Hudson Leick ever could. When they switched bodies, I swear Lucy played Callisto (in Xena's body) better than Hudson did when Callisto was in her own body. But, then, I am a founding member of HHHI ("Hissy Hag Haters, International"). Though Hudson got better, her performance in her first episode was horrible.

For television, I have to say Bruce Boxleitner falls into the highly respected but underappreciated category. Sam Elliot and Tom Selleck also get nods in that direction.

For movies, Brendan Fraser and George Clooney both qualify as being unnecessarily raked over the coals by the critics and marketing machine of Hollywood.
