What Actors do You Find to Be Warning Flags

I've never liked any movie with Ben Stiller in it.

I also generally avoid movies with stars who were (or still are) singers or rappers. Sure, you get the occasional success like Ice-T or Will Smith, but then you're left with ones like Madonna, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, and Jennifer Love Hewett. It's usually just not worth the risk.

I actually liked The Scorpion King. That's not to say that it's a good movie, but I liked it :)

Personally, I like to have a good plot to go with my action/violence. ;) I'm sorry, but I just don't think that guy can act. :\

Just what exactly is Christopher Lambert's accent anyway? It doesn't sound quite french or german...a friend mine best summed it up when she said..."he sounds European"...I followed up with the question... "from where"...the answer... "like I said, from Europe".
My understanding is that that is exactly as it should be. He was given extensive speech training for Highlander to get a vague, but cool, accent. And he kept it.

Note: This is what I've heard. Do not consider it confirmed by any means.

David Carradine. If he's in the movie, the movie probably sucks. Kill Bill has been an atypical experience.

Sean Connery. He's a decent actor, but as the Onion pointed out a number of years ago, his career has lurched between good movies and really bad. He is no indicator that the movie is any good.

Rutger Hauer. Also a decent actor in the right role. Blade Runner and Ladyhawke are highlights of an otherwise lackluster career.

Anything starring or directed by Ed Wood.

I'm really surprised at how many people dislike Jim Carrey. He's actually one of my favorite actors. True, I'm not an Ace Ventura fan, but I think he's an awesome actor personally. Some of my favorite movies have him as the lead.

Any movie where the lead is somehow in the music industry. Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, anyone from a boy band, etc, etc.

Anyone who used to be a pro wrestler. *cough* The Rock *cough, cough*

And Ashton Kutcher......Bleh. :\

The Rock? Scorpion King was mildly entertaining, but the Rundown was one of the best action movies in the last few years. Of course it wasn't really The Rock's performance that did it, but he was decent in the movie. I haven't seen Walking Tall though.

I also avoid movies with actors from other media. Most SNL actors, Ben Stiller, and Kate Hudson are the only others that come to mind.

I really didn't like the Scorpion King, I thought that it relied to much on having good enough actions scenes to make up for its bad plot. I don't think that the Rock can act, and the only reason I would want to see The Rundown, is because Christopher Walken is in it. ;)

Anyone From Saturday Night Live : Except for Michael Myers - In fact I think they should probably pass a law that NOBODY from SNL, except Mike gets to make movies. Especially if it's based on a character from one of their scetches or is Adam Sandler.

Definitely. Most SNL actors end up making box office turkey bombs. There have been exception over the years, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, etc., but for the most part an SNL actor tends to be a lousy screen actor. Also recurring SNL characters often do abysmally bad on the big screen.

The Baldwin Family - (Possibly excepting Alex : He's been in enough good films that his prescence doesn't necessarily indicate a turkey). There are so many Baldwin brothers and they've been in so many bad films, does more need to be said?

I'll agree there. Alex Baldwin is the only member of the family who can act worth a damn.

Rap Stars - With the exception of Ice-T who's done enough work in non-Rap star roles that he has become a respectible actor. As a square white guy raised in the burbs, who's favorite music happens to be largely 80's anime Jpop. I know that any movie featuring rap stars as the main characters is not a film aimed at me.

Not just rap stars, this really should be extended to any non-actor celebrity, as in ANY musician, sports stars, etc. Some of these people think because they're famous, they can act. WRONG. Here there are exceptions as well, Will Smith I would say is an even better example than Ice-T, but for the most part it hold true.

And let's not forget any Wayans brother (*cough Snails *cough). Anything with a Wayans is bound to suck.

Actually, he is French (A warning sign right there if ever I've seen one). He did not actually speak english when he was filming "Highlander". He was simply taught to say his lines phonetically, much the same way a parrot learns a word or sound.

Personally, I have my doubts that he's ever learned english given his performances since then.

Remember people, this isn't a "What Actors Do you Hate Thread" It's a "Who's a Warning Sign" thread.
***************************************************

To give another example : Roger Corman - His good films are about as common as Ed Woods. If he's directed a film then you know it's got to be crap.

Also, while this does mostly fall under the aformentioned "Any non-Actor star Vehicle", movies made to exploit pop phenomina, not only are almost invariably horrifically bad, but in a small light at the end of the tunnel usually indicate that the pop phenom is over. "Spiceworld", "Prayer of the Rollerboys", "From Justin to Kelly"...

Rutger Hauer. Also a decent actor in the right role. Blade Runner and Ladyhawke are highlights of an otherwise lackluster career.

Don't forget "The Blood of Heroes" and "Flesh + Blood" which are both excellent films.

TBoH is one of my all time favorite films, though you have to
A) Be willing to give it a break and not criticize the premises.
b) Have a good sound system (especially a Subwoofer), the sound track is very important to many of the action sequences, especially the way it is syched to the action (Esp: Joan Chen's "Ear" Sequence and the Big Game at the end).

So I don't really think he qualifies as a warning sign. I would say perhaps a Caution Sign. Even his bad films usually have at least some redeeming qualities, even if only a good quip or two. Like the "Bigger GUNS!" bit from "Split Second".

I would recomend Mystery Men, Zoolander. Both of those are terrifically funny films, though I'd have to admit he is in a lot of cringe inducing films ("Meet the Parents").

And I've liked several Will Smith movies (though I thought Independence Day was terrible). Maybe people don't think of him as a rap star.

He had his own TV show for a number of years ("Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire") before doing movies and I was unaware that he had even had a music career until after he'd done several films. However, given his last couple of films (espec MIBII), a trend that "I Robot" seems unlikely to stem, he may yet become a warning sign.
