What Alignment system do you use now?

My group falls in the "nominally 4e's but effectively none" category as well. We describe our characters by characterization (of which there is plenty), by some form of D&D alignment, not so much.

since the 4e alignment system has no mechanical impact, I find this equates to not having an alignment system at all.

Add another one to the list.

Some people around here use the alignment they choose to help set up their character personality/goals/what have you.

I just put Unaligned in the box, and then act how I want the character to be. My PCs tend to act Good toward people they like, Unaligned to people they don't care about, and Evil toward people they hate.

We use alignment, but try to keep it hidden. Not even the DM knows what the other characters alignments are. In other words, we don't use them much at all.

3E: traditional alignment system.
4E: no alignment, unless the player is doing a cleric of bahamut and start butchering villagers...

Technically RAW, but N/A in practice.

I told my players they could write down whatever they wanted for alignment. If they really wanted Lawful Neutral, they could feel free.

When we were playing 4e, we used 4e's "two alignment" system (PCs are unaligned, monsters are evil) with an occasional outlier (a CE demon or LG cleric).

Now back to 3e, we use the 9 alignment.

The grid of 9 alignments, more or less. However, except for powerful outsiders, undead or aberrations, it doesn't really figure into play.

For PCs, I prefer to just have a basic idea of character motivation in place to guide RP.

PCs belonging to an order of some sort (eg, paladins, druids, guild thieves, knights, samurai, etc) are expected to abide by their respective codes of conduct. I find this is a lot easier to work with than nebulous "alignments".

The 4E alignment system was the closest I could see D&D getting to the , IMO, superior alignment system of Arcana Unearthed/Evolved. We use the 4E alignment and it basically only comes into play for what alignment/god combo is desired for Divine players. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter so long as the party is able to function together.
