What alternate base classes are you using?

First Post
Some discussion of various alterate classes inspired me to create this thread...

What alternate classes are a) actually being used, and b) permitted, in your campaigns.

Include any from books outsite the PHB. Name the source.

E.g. In my current campaign we have one person playing the Noble class, using the Mongoose Power Class book

My DM is pretty flexible and would allow most classes, certainly any from WotC material and most reasonable one's from outside sources.

Right now, I'm allowing all core base classes, Psion, Psychic Warrior, and the base classes from Oriental Adventures. Right now, noone is using any of these options. If someone brings me something else, I'll look at it, but I'm pretty reluctant to add most material that I didn't buy for myself.

One of the characters in my D&D game is using a custom class called Disturbed-- it's essentially a watered-down Rogue and hyper-specialized Telepath, with a very limited powers list. I think I may have overpowered it (so I won't be allowing it in future campaigns) but noone is complaining about it right now.

Context: My homebrew is divided into several regions, roughly analogous to real-world regions (historical or mythical).

"Global": Added: Shaman (Shaman's Handbook, Green Ronin), Witch (Witch's Handbook, Green Ronin), Thug (NPC, "lesser Rogue", Traps & Treachery, Fantasy Flight Games)

"Medieval Europe": Removed: Monks. Added: Marshal (Minis Handbook, WotC), Friar (NPC, "lesser Cleric", homebrew), Hedge Mage (NPC, "lesser Wizard", homebrew)
"Asia/India": changes as recommended in Oriental Adventures (WotC)
"Africa": working on integrating Nyambe materials

Contemplating adding: Avatar (Avatar's Handbook, Green Ronin), Unholy Warrior (NPC, Unholy Warrior's Handbook, Green Ronin), Noble (Noble's Handbook, Green Ronin), Assassin (Assassin's Handbook, Green Ronin)

For a while, under 3.0, I used Monte Cook's alternative Ranger from the Web. The 3.5 Core Ranger is closer to what I wanted, so I am now using that. I am also intrigued with the non-spellcasting variants of Paladin and Ranger from Complete Warrior, and may use those instead of the standard.

martial artist

i've been fiddling with the martial artist class. basically it's almost exactly like the monk, except they can be any alignment. the 'monk' would just be a sub-class of the martial artist.

Holy/Unholy Warrior from Green Ronin encompassing the Paladin, Samurai from OA in slightly altered form for nobles, and OA's version of the Shaman.

In the current iteration of my house rules, I allow Psion and Psychic Warrior and Green Ronin's Shaman and Holy Warrior. I even scanned in the Holy Warrior so my players wouldn't need to get the BotR to take advantage of the class. As a DM I, of course, use unholy warriors.

In the next go around, I am thinking of adding the Martial Artist from Beyond Monks, as well as the Noble from Green Ronin's Noble's Handbook.

In the seafaring campaign I am about to start, I am thinking of tweaking the unfettered and renaming it the swashbuckler. One of my players wants to play the corsair fighter variant from the Dragon (which I am thinking of allowing, as the variants aren't whole new class, mostly just slight tweaks to the fighter), but we'll see if he changes his mind after he sees the swashbuckler.

In my OA setting I allow the OA Samurai, Sohei, Shaman, and Wu Jen, and also allow the Martial Artist and Green Ronin's Shaman.
