What anime and manga have influenced your gaming experience.

This is in a similar vein to the what crpg's have influenced you game thread earlier.

I'm curious what anime and manga have influenced your gaming experience. Whether that be stylistically, or story wise, or just how you picture the world in your head.

I've mostly had an 'anime style' pictured in my head when doing most D&D adventures since Record of Lodoss War. The two largest influences to date, though, have been Heroic Legend of Arislan and Orphen.

I ran a modern game that was heavily influenced by Full Metal Panic and Gits:Sac
I also ran a steam punk like adventer that was based off Last Exile. I think anime is a great resource for ideas.

The grand finale for my current campaign is inspired by the surprise ending of Vampire Princess Miyu (TV show).

Well, despite my handle on these boards, anime has only served to influence the look (in my head) of D&D. I base a lot of how my characters dress and such off of anime, but that's about it for me. I find anime a bit too sci-fi for my style of D&D. Granted, Record of the Lodoss War is very fantasy-based, I like my games more gritty. Of course, since I run a Scarred Lands game, the anime look is fairly in.

Well, the game I currently run is influenced quite a bit from anime - part of the main plotline is fairly similiar to Inuyasha's, while other elements of the setting are based loosely on Fushigi Yuugi. Stylistically, Naruto is coming into the game; that series has also colored how I visualize the psychic powers of my PsiWarrior in the game I play in. Scrapped Princess will probably be coming into the game I'm planning to run sometime in the future... haven't figured out exactly how to incorporate it yet, though.

Oh, and I just randomly pull names from anime whenever I need a name for an NPC or location... of course, I'm also running an Oriental game, so I'd probably get into trouble if I tried that anywhere else. =b

My game has seen fragments of both Princess Mononoke and Record of Lodoss War

Hmmm... I should burn one of those tonight.

I agree with Harlock. Mostly I can't see anime and D&D ever really crossing paths, although I can see some Vampire Hunter D in a Ravenloft campaign (anybody still play that?). Now Escaflowne... that was enough to make me almost drop a giant clockwork mecha in my game.

Almost.

I've taken character and adventure ideas from various anime and manga, including Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo and Slayers. Some of the other people in the gaming group have used stuff from Ninja Scroll and Princess Mononoke.
There has been plenty of ideas from other anime/manga that I thought would be cool but never got around to using, for a variety of reasons.

I'm considering basing a future campaign on Magic Knight Rayearth.
Though I've got the feeling the players would tell Clef to get stuffed rather than help save the world.

Geoff.
