What are some good 2 player board/card games

I bought Carcassonne on friday night. I read the rules on the way home on the train and I really don't think my wife will like it. It just sounds too strategic and not enough "fun" for what she would be into. She said that she'd still give it a go and play a game with me but I don't have very high expectations. Oh well, at least I can still play it with my gaming group.

It's hard to find games for real non-gamers.

I'd advise simplifying the rules to remove farmers. (The game still works).

That way, it's just building cities, roads and cloisters. If you don't play it in a cut-throat fashion (that is, to steal cities from your wife), she may still like it.

I agree with you on the first count Merric, it is extremely difficult to come up with a game that works for both me and my wife. I can have a bit of fun with some of the simpler games but I just don't enjoy games as much when it is more luck than anything else that determines the result.

Removing the farmers might make things a bit simpler. I'm still not too hopeful but I'll give it a go and find out.

That is a definite possibility. I already have the rules for it and dice aren't exactly rare around a roleplayer! Pass the Pigs is another example of a game that she likes. Unfortunately I find it a bit repetitive since the only real "skill" in the game is knowing when to stop rolling and bank your score.
