D&D 5E What are some negative Experiences with HotDQ?

i saw a guy get in trouble in the other thread and was directed to make a new one for the subject.

i'll start. while i had a lot of fun playing through the first half of tyranny of dragons (both as a player and DM) the main plot really is jut a boring follow quest on rails. there's only ever one scenario presented for success in tracking the wagon and cultists so the party feels like they've been doing the same thing for months (they are). i feel like this could have been fixed by ending the follow mission before the module was half over and starting the party on a more exciting task.

also, the enemies and encounters in the book are a little on the boring side as well. i feel like there's a cap on the number of times the party can roll initiative against drakes and cultist mooks. also, the fact that the cult wants to summon tiamat is treated like a secret, yet everyone and their grandmother knows that's what this whole story line is about. it seems really pointless to try to pretend like it's worth revealing later in the adventure.

i'm currently doing Rise of Tiamat now and so far that adventure seems much better. there's more variance in the mission and the characters have a lot more agency in deciding the order the story gets told in.

My only negative experiences with it are the editing.
I have had a couple players who may disagree...

the guy who, when everyone else hid, had his paladin stand up in chapter 1, and try to hold the intersection against the cultists... and got insta-killed. But I don't count player stupidity as a bad experience with the module. I was blessed with a table full of thinkers.

What are some negative Experiences with Hot DQ?

Mostly just that hot ice cream is soupy, so it's easy to mess up your clothes or your car or whatever. Shouldn't be a problem if you put in a bowl, but some would probably argue that you won't be getting the "true experience" out of it if you make it hot. Others might say that it's all the same stuff, and what form it takes doesn't matter. You should probably try it yourself and see what happens and then tell us!

....this advice also applies to Hoard of the Dragon Queen, on the off chance that you weren't talking about ice cream.

Now time for lunch!
