The number one reason for me is that the schedules in our group just don't match up sometimes.

But, I also chose "other" for a lot of reasons. For example, the weekend after this one is my sister's 40th birthday party, my niece's graduation and the return of my cousin from active duty in Iraq. Sometimes my boyfriend just wants to spend time with me (who knew). For me, its not one or two big things, it's a lot of little things,

I play frequently enough (once or twice a week), but a limited number of players that either a) get along or b) function well as a team means I don't necessarily get quality game time in. Heck, I DM for just two players once a week just so we can play D&D at all. :(

For me, its mostly job and research obligations at the university I work at. I'm a professor of neurobiology, so class prep, paperwork, grant proposals, and research time in the lab tend to cut down on my free time. I am not married, no girlfriend, and no kids, so I don't have to worry about the biggest time sinks. Finally, all of my friends around here need to spend time with their wives/girlfriends (although one guy's wife games with us)- I can't begrudge them that at all. So we get to game on average about once every two weeks for about 4-5 hours. Not bad- I'd like to get a regular Deadlands game going as well, but realize that as me and my friends get older, its harder to get everyone's schedule to synchronize, even if they still love gaming.

For me, I usually can't game as much as I want in an individual campaign because I'm busy with some other campaign.

Working on a Ph.D. and for two academic journals comes a distant second.

Yeah, that pretty much says it all.

Ours is about 20 cents cheaper. But still an ouchie. Not as big a hindrance as the hours I work. I usually work daytime on weekends and have to go home and clean up to go game for the Saturday games. The Friday ones, I have time to take a couple hours' nap beforehand.

In one word... Summer.

When summer rolls around, people spend more time at the beach, travelling, performing more outdoor activities, etc. In fall and winter, this usually dries up for us, and regular gaming resumes.

This year has been unusual, as I don't think anyone's missed more than one or two weekly sessions -- except for fellow gamer Torm, who has had to quit for a while to deal with some work and real-life issues.

Gas doesn't figure in for us much, since we all live within about 15 miles of one another.

Our schedule has to take into account for cons, concerts and other events. I'm about 20 miles from the hosts' house; another gamer a bit further than that. But most live fairly close to there.

Beach isn't a problem since it's TOO FAR to get to for us.

Haven't seen Torm here on the boards lately. Hope he's doing ok.

I just started my first post grad school job, and the adjustment to full time is kicking my creativity and energy level in the teeth.

Plus I'm trying to also write two storyhours and a half dozen other stories. I'm finding my creativity is there, but I can't find the energy level to sit down and write much till the weekend, and by then it's almost too late.

I have a crappy work schedule - crappy in that I have to work on the days when my face to face group meets. And I work a 2nd shift, which makes it difficult to game with people who work during the day.

I hope this changes soon. We'll see.
