I guess I'd have to say my reason is 'not enough hours in the week', like Henrix. I play twice a week usually, and I used to play 3 times a week, but it got to be too much like working an extra job. I never had any time to do other stuff, like shop, clean the bathroom, do laundry... When I get home from work in the evenings I don't want to spend my few precious hours doing that kind of stuff; I want to vegetate on the couch and watch tv. :)

My fiancee is a gamer too, so when we're both gaming there's no one to take care of the everyday living stuff. We need a maid. ;)

Recriuting The Right Players

Yea, it's hard enough to find players, much less the RIGHT kind of player. Most people settle for anything and therein lies the problem. It takes one bad player to spoil an entire campaign, burn out a dm, or alienate all the other players.

FYI, ATTACHED is my gamer ad. YOu guys should modify it for your own and keep it up at all the local hobby, comic, and game stores. I always tell the "owner" to mention my name to anyone who's looking at books too. There's a lot of lonely gamers out there ;) If any of you have your ad's, feel free to attach them here (sans personal info if you worry about that stuff). I'd like to see what works for you folks.

My own group's been shrinking and growing in convoluted ways since the advent o f3.0. Sadly, I haven't gamed in 3 months due to work, kids and work (oh and work..I'm a small businessman).

I game once every two weeks typically. I'd rather more often but it's a small group (3 players +DM) and one of the players works a rotating schedule as a newbie nurse so every other week he works 7 PM to 9 AM. Of course on my "off" weekends I meet up with another buddy and play a division level WWII sim (the old Avalon Hill Russian Campaign) so I still get my fix, just in a different form.

[hijack] Got curious so I did a couple of quick conversions on the gas prices here. Wanted to figure out how much save per liter if I drove down to montana and filled up.

Gas in calgary right now is 1.15 to 1.20 per liter. Convert that to American and you are looking at 1.02 per liter. Multiply that by 3.7854 and I am paying 3 dollers and 86 cents a gallon for gas. And that is assuming I hunt around for a place that hasn't raised their prices for the long weekend yet. If I pay 1.20 I'm looking at 4.05$/gallon US. I've even seen a few places as high as 1.25. I have a Honda Civic that took over 40$ worth of gas last week. I have the recipt pegged to the fridge as a reminder to take the bus.

I know Europeans have it even worse. I shudder to think of what their gas station signs look like.[/hijack]

Euro's have a strong infrastructure of trains, community and aren't so spread out as us here in N.Amer. They're already set up to handle the blow of higher gas prices. We're the ones that are screwed. The world will just have to get smaller again and people will have to get to know their neigbors (you mean open my beige garage door and look outside without having been in my SUV? oh, damn my eyes!!!!)

Yea, can you tell I live in a beige suburb hell of sprawl? ;)

I am getting in pretty much the right amount of gaming. I find that a smaller group is easier to schedule, and the gaming itself is faster and more fun and dare I say more "intimate." 3 or 4 players and a DM seems to be about perfect for the games I run.

Well, I don't have a car, so I checked "disability". Depending on others for transportation is a big problem in many, many respects.

For most of my friends, it's more along the lines of "I went out and got married and throughout the entire courting period it just didn't seem important to inquire as to whether I'd be allowed to maintain any hobbies that I enjoy in our post-nuptual existence".

They have to ask permission to have their equivalent of poker night, and their petition is frequently denied. I'll never get it: why do peple get into relationships where there's non-stop give and precious little take?

Attention fellow gamers: the world doesn't end just because the significant other is mad at you. They'll get over it, and maybe even learn that they can't keep your coddlings locked in a vice. If you really want to game, just say "look, I need this--you get to have things you want, and sometimes I get to have things for me too".

Lack of sleep. I fret the day before the game, worrying that I have all the info straight, all the handouts printed, etc. I'm new to DMing so I have "n00b DM stage fright" still.

I keep asking my players for criticisms, and they seem happy, so I guess I should relax.....but I still lose sleep.
