What are you going to do with d20 Future?

It's not just another piece of gear and so can't be balanced the same way.
Level adjustments, maybe? Have three different templates, say: Minor Agumented, Augmented, and Major Augmented. Each template allows for X amount of cybernetic enhancement, with an appropriate LA.

That, or do something like the bloodlines from UA or the substitution levels from the Planar Handbook. I.e., you sacrifice a level for some cyberware, but don't acutally add a new class.

KRAMER: Levels.

JERRY: Levels?

Hmm... that could work...

Make you a deal: Find me 150 people that will swear they will buy the product, and I'll get right on making them in PDF and print.
I'll make YOU a deal. You swear that the Modern/Future product you put out is high quality, and worth the pricetag you put on it, and the 150 people will buy it without reservation.
Can't commit to something sight unseen.

And even more ditto!

OK.

First, please understand the following: I am not trying to bait you or be bitter. I'm just wanting to speak a bit on the issues of publishing. Other's opinions DO matter to me, and the comments I have seen have shaped the way I do business.

First: Who defines quality? What is quality? I have seen people call any map that is not hand drawn "poor quality" regardless of how good it looks. I seen people bash a book for a single typo. I have seen people attack books for having too much 'fluff' and not enough 'crunch'. Heck, I've seen people say they won't buy from small publishing houses because they are ALL poor quality. I'm not saying you (or anyone else) has done this, just that such things have been defined as such.

Second: I deal in PDF publications. Sadly, sight unseen of the final product is a limitation of the medium. It does not help that nobody really uses the RPGNOW comment system very often.

Third: It's d20 modern. It's almost as small a group as the D&D -> GameMasters -> 'Needs a setting book' group.

Based on that, I can't expect that I will sell very many books.

Anyway, I'm a slow learner. I have released a small PDF called 'Modern Fantasy: Paladins and Priests'. I'm also working on 'Rangers and Druids'.

I'm also working on 'Dryden: Hero or Horror' as a racial class/monster sourcebook for d20 Fantasy, Modern, and Future.

If these sell well, I'll take you up on more d20M books. I will also look into d20 Future as well.

Thanks for your input,
John Bowden

Great! I'd love to see more D20 Modern material.
My wife put out Modern Backdrops through RPGObjects, and it sold well enough through RPGNow to have a print run (it's back from the printers, and has been spotted and bought off of store shelves!!!).
My advice is to put out the Modern product you would buy, and go from there.

I should have clarified the "sight unseen" comment. :) My bad. What I'm talking about there, is "I'll put out a D20 Modern product if 150 people swear they'll buy it."

Uhhhhh..... Oooookay..... What will it be? What's the focus of the book? Will it have crunch? Will it have fluff? Will it be useful?

You're asking people to swear to buy a product about which they know nothing except it's to be for D20 Modern... Not that you'd do this, but that could mean you'd be putting out.... ...... Modern Crapmasters The D20 Modern Guide to Septic Tank Maintenance and Pumping, complete with the Crapmaster Advanced Class.... Have it as a 10 page PDF for $29.95, and expect those 150 people to make good on their promise.

That's what I mean by not committing to anything sight unseen.

Looking forward to seeing what you have to put out...

Just as a bit of input, however, I'll take a look at the paladins and priests, and look at the blurb.... But something like THAT doesn't sound like it's up my alley.
I'd rather see fully modern material, rather than converted fantasy classes, but that's just me.

Unless you're looking to completely revamp the classes for fantasy, and thus make it easier to port D20 Modern to the fantasy genre, using the D20 Modern mechanics for fantasy... That would be cool.

Actually, I've been considering that. Sort of like a d20 Fantasy sourcebook like d20 Future.

I figured that people would rather have the classes in pairs than in a big book for the moment. Just grab what you like, and ignore the rest.

The Ranger is finished, but the Druid is taking some heavy rebuilding for D20 modern. Why on earth do they get the ability to change thier face at will? Sounds like a bard ability to me...

Anyway, When I'm done with Rangers and Druids, I'll finish up the Dryden. By then, d20 future should be out, and god knows I love a good Sci-Fi...
