What are you using from the Miniatures Handbook?

A player is about to start playing a Courtier4/Marshal2 in the Rokugan game I'm running. He's going to have a bodyguard cohort so that he can actually participate in combat, rather than just standing in the back and saying that he's using his auras. Should be interesting to see how well it works out.

Miniatures Handbook...

The Sudden metamagic feats are no addition to my game - we've been allowing a once-a-day use of metamagic feats for a while (as originally suggested in Dragon mag a while back) - still can't exceed the level limits, but you don't 'pay' extra for that one use. Just the standard feats work fine for me.

I liked the swift spell idea - and I'm glad it's incorporated in the XPH, but haven't opened the extra spells up for general use (there are already too many choices with the various splats and FR sources).

I do use the Revivify spell, though it works like Raise Dead (back to Character Level in hp), costs the same as Raise Dead and is 6th-level IMC. I didn't like that this spell (nice idea) brings you back, but you're still helpless and in need of further medic attention - at least on low positive hp you can glug a potion/run away/protect yourself.

The PrC and monsters aren't vastly interesting to me.

Oh, and the mass battle 'rules', which were my primary reason for buying the book...what a waste of pages. I WISH I'd read a review first. I won't rant here (though I really want to).

Overall then, I use a modified Revivify.

My DM is threatening to use zerglings on the party. Well, they're not called zerglings, but I don't have the book - all I know is the fiendish look of glee on her face when she does talk about them.

I don´t own the book but I´ve head about the Revivify spell. Good idea, so I´ll allow it in my campaign (the players will get it imbued in an ioun stone). Makes death better to deal with.

Creatures. The Nothic creature is neat looking I just HAVE to fit in somehow. :p Also looking at varies other stuff but that is on the back burner since I have several gatrillion things I want to use/try first from other books.

Why oh why do I continue to buy new books when I have years worth of stuff already????? riddle me that?

well, my roommates and i use the miniatures side of the book on a daily basis, but i havent bothered with any of the rpg stuff yet.

I'm allowing the RPG stuff in my campaign.

That doesn't mean that is is sought after much by the players, but some (including me as a DM and as a player in another campaign) come to the conclusion that the spells are useful (mostly), the PrCs are worthwhile, the core classes are interesting but nothing else, and the monsters are to be encountered.

A fellow player (in the other campaign) is trying out a warmage. He is a little bored about his spell selection, but his warmage has saved our butt more than once with his Warmage's Edge.

Deft Opportunist is a killer feat if you have have it in a combo with combat reflexes. Powerful Charge makes sense for someone with the Flying Kick feat (e.g. a monk).

A Snake's Swiftness from a 1st level druid is very nice to have cast at you.

Nice, too, are the color floor tiles and templates.

The rest is neglectable ;)

Kind regards

The monsters. Notably the Equiceph and Ramadeen, for which I'd like minis, please. In fact, I'm not sure I understand why there are monsters in the miniatures handbook for which there aren't minis. Were they in Chainmail?

Some of them were - there was an Equiceph in Chainmail, as I recall (at least a zombie one! ;))

The others are coming out in sets Real Soon Now. :) The Protectar is definitely in Giants of Legend, and hopefully most should be out by the time of Aberrations.

Cheers!

My group tries to get a lot out of the group;

one guy had a favored suol / warmage / msytic theurge... it was awful (but complete divine is fixing this problem)

the healer is okay, though it needs the ability to spontaniously cast cure spells to really work (in which case, its realyl effective).

we all think the marshal looks cool, but no one has made one yet.

bonded summoner and war hulk both see a lot of use, as do many of the feats
