The_Universe said:What are your group's "Group Rules?" Not house rules for a particular game or system, but a set of implied or explicit codes of conduct or behavior that everyone is supposed to abide by. Who's supposed to bring the chips and soda (or beer)? What happens when there's a disagreement? How many players have to be present to play? Stuff like that.
Please, share!
Ok, straight from our House Rules, this is our A#1 table rule, and I stress the last part, "Don't be a distraction":
The table rules are simple and straightforward. Be polite, be mature about things, and don’t be a distraction
Here is the complete section on table rules:
IX. Table Rules
The table rules are simple and straightforward. Be polite, be mature about things, and don’t be a distraction. The D&D game rules are guidelines but not written in stone: The DM always has final say. A fun D&D game is a team effort.
1. Let me know if you can’t attend
2. Save lengthy rules discussions for after the game.
3. Don’t use the MM or DMG to look up stuff, that as a player you shouldn’t be looking up during the game.
4. We like to keep the combat round flowing, so be prepared and ready to act when it’s your turn. We also prefer if you “eyeball” the placement of your spells. Loose measurement is acceptable for movement, spells, and ranged attacks. As experienced gamers you should be able to think and fight on your feet.
Lots of things are implied under "don't be a distraction" such as don't talk when the DM is talking, don't be talking about the upcoming Star Wars movie when everyone else is trying to play, don't sit there and paint miniatures while we're gaming, don't sit there and read your Eberron sourcebook when we're playing our FR D&D game, etc etc etc.
Its like this, we all show up to play and have fun right? If someone at the table is detracting from that then correct the problem. Remember, the needs of the group always outweight the needs of the individual. Run your games by that standard and everything will work out for the best
