D&D 5E What big thing is supposed to be next week?

Considering that D&DXP (basically D&D CON) is late this month, I can't imagine them making an announcement like 5e now - they'd do it then. Hell, I'm surprised they're making any announcement with D&DXP at the end of the month.

"5e is ready! And going on sale at DDXP!"

or, even better:

"We're doing a massive open playtest of 5e. Grab your pre-release copy of the rules at DDXP!"

But that's crazy talk, of course.

Considering the sheer time it would take to do 5e, it would be insane unless WotC had a time machine.

I think they are pretty happy with 4E, and they should be. I have been pouring over the Essentials and it's a fine game. However, it's been served in a less than palatable way. It looks really nice if you enjoy MS Word templates. Alas, gamers don't. If they hired Monte Cook to rewrite it and gotten some other talent to rework the layout they can rerelease it and perhaps enjoy more success with the game. Maybe Wizards feel Essentials deserve a second chance? I used to assume Essentials sucked (before reading it) but it turns out I like it a lot.
