I don't think there's anything wrong with the forsaker. 300 pit traps, heat exhaustion rolls, and underwater adventures later, I wouldn't be regretting my character being a forsaker, I'd be regretting the lack of DM creativity. D&D is too complex to be wasted on the same several things. And I don't know how most peole play D&D, but every part I've been in generally buys food, and we carry non-spoiling food around for several days. If it's a long journey, we stick it on the pack animal. If we travel for 5 days, we mark off 15 meals for everyone. We generally don't travel through hot or cold deserts, so heat exhaustion and frostbite usually don't come up. Another point is that in a dead-magic zone, forsakers can rightfully laugh hysterically at the rest of the party. Forsakers probably aren't useful in every situation, but that's perfectly fine for a prestige class. Druids are a base class, and there are some circumstances where they're far more useless than any forsaker.
