I voted Bard. I also play rogues and rangers. I like the Bard because he is so flexibly. The jack of all trades master of none thing really works for me, and they are good support characters. The other players usually find out how useful my Bard is when he is not there -> hey were is the guy with the healing spells? or: hey were is our archer? or: where is our diplomat?
I've spent most of my gaming life DMing. I've been playing in a few campaigns in the last few years, but I haven't played enough characters to really define a trend. I've played a bard, a bladesinger, a fighter, a psychic warrior, a sorcerer and a spymaster.
I mostly DM but I do play in one campaign. There I'm a Sorcerer/Barbarian. With the release of Complete Divine I would probably have picked Spirit Shaman. Instead I choose Sorcerer (since I do like them a lot)
Since D&D 3.5 and its improved classes, I near always want to play a ranger (for fighting abilities and lot of skills). I also much like the combination of ranger + fighter.
I like playing the Paladin, Wizard/Sorcerer and Rogue, in that order. I would like to play a Fighter or Cleric too but not any wilderness type. The Bard could be interesting.
