if your DM said to you that he was starting a new 6th level campaign in two weeks and then you looked through your books, what character would you make??????

anything is allowed from any wotc materials or d20 supplements, no dragon magazine stuff though, also ECL +2 at highest.

this is for a forgotten realms campaign.

please help a man in need.

I'd use a gnoll ranger 5th level looking to go Foe Hunter. Favored foe, Drow.

Another character idea, Deep Gnome expert1/fighter4, that's an expert in seige craft.

I think it would be fun to play a Tiefling (+1 ECL) Fighter 2/Rogue 3, aiming for a duelist.

With a 32-point buy character, I'd assign stats as follows:

St-12
Dx-17(+2 Tiefling, +1 Level)->20
Co-12
In-14(+2 Tiefling)->16
Wi-10
Ch-11

I'd make a rock gnome transmuter.
Or a tiefling paladin.
Or a fire genasi sorceror.
Or a ghostwise halfling barbarian.
Eh, that's what springs to mind for me.
Oh, and a drow ranger. :D

I'd be overwhelmed.

There are so many choices and possibilities - literally dozens of books and supplements to look in and choose from, plus magazines and online material ...

I guess I'd fall back on the old 1st and 2nd Edition dependable concept - the fighter/mage.

I'd use the 3rd Edition rules to make a 3rd level fighter / 3rd level mage.

I'd pick the most nasty, devastating spells I could find from the supplements, and I'd pick the best combinations of Feats I could dream up ... which is to say, I'd pick one good set of Feats from a choice of hundreds of possible good sets of Feats.

I would have my character wear armor, and he would carry effective melee weapons.

I guess that I would go from there, trying to find interesting options - both min/max and character building - from all the source material.

It would be an interesting experiment, at the least.

I would go so far as to say, putting my neck out on this, that there would be no perfect combination of classes, skills, and Feats - each combination has it's own strengths and weaknesses, and the possible combinations are almost endless.
So, although my character might end up powerful and capable, knowledgable, unique and ultimately special, he would not be the most powerful guy around, nor could I claim I had discovered any ultimate combination of things that made him better than everyone else.

(shrugs)

The point is to build a character that is special and unique, anyways, IMO.
3rd Edition seems to be all about doing just that.

here is what i would do, human fighter2/ wizard 3/ spellsword 1. feats general= mind over body, alertness, improved initiative, craft wonderous item. fighter weapon focus bastard sword, exotic weapon bastard sword. str dex int high, con, wis, cha low. max out hide and move silently along with whatever else you take. you will finish spellsword at level 15 and can then take either arcane devotee or divine champion depending on your focus, then it's epic baby, time to kill gods.

at least that's what i would do if i were a fr type guy

edit: horrid punctuation.

I would play a 3rd Level Cleric of Death/3rd Level Necromancer aiming for the True Necromancer Prestige Class. I would be Lawful Evil (probably be able to work with a group)...I reckon it would be fun to watch my undead minions rend my foes

My choice would be:

Elven Cleric of Shevarash

Domains: Elf and War

That way you get free feats for a longbow, just try to get a mighty composite longbow. (Same feats will probably apply, as per Sword and Fist.)

Dex should be high, possibly wis too, but all stats you can boost with spells that have long duration. Get empower spell feat for empowered boosts (bull's strength, even cat's grace from domain.)

The key to playing archer-cleric is boosting your character, so get some wands for healing, and don't use your spells to heal.

Monte's alternate Sorcerer... 6th level, human from Calimshan.

'Blood-line of fire' & 'Spellcasting Prodigy' as feats... plus others of course, but these at 1st.

This is something I always wanted to try if I got to play in an FR campaign with some wiggle room level wise.

A human with the Shade template from the back of the FRCS, with levels in mage shooting for the Shadow Adapt PrC (and later the Archmage PrC if the game is going to go on that long.) Along the way you'll probably want to pick up Signiture Spell: Darkness so that you'll have more control over when and how you can use your shade abilities.

Now the reason I was waiting for an FR campaign to do this is because of the basic character idea behind that pile of mechanics. The very recent return of the city of Shade sparked this idea, the idea is to play a young shade of neutral alignment just out of apprenticeship. Not interested in becoming a cog in the mechinations of the leadership to retake their place in the world, he would rather study this new world he's landed on. The young shade goes AWOL and sets out to explore, hopefully making for a fun stranger in a strange land kind of appeal.
