what character would you make?

It depends, will this campaign go on for a while? That answer makes a difference.

Either:

1. A human Sorcerer. If you have enough wealth, you can "start" with Bracers of AC and not need Mage Armor, freeing up a spell slot. If you have enough moolah to buy a haste item (even if it is only for a few rounds a day) you can free up the third level slot.

If the campaign is not going to go on for too long then put an 18 in Con and a 14 in CHA. boost your HP for the short term at the sacrifice of higher spell DCs. If you are going to be playing for a while, nix this idea.

or...

2. A halfling paladin with an ostrich mount. Put an 18 in CHA your saves will be amazing. Give the ostrich a either a magic item that lets them fly or jump and you will be in business.

For your PC either follow the mounted feats chain and plan on lancing your opponents, possibly from above (via flight of a big jump). or follow the thrown weapon feat chain and be a master dagger thrower. Quick draw, rapid shot, shot on the run, precise shot, etc. Halfling bonuses to hit with thrown weapons, a high dex, and the figher BAB are all in your favor. For magic look again for haste items and daggers of returning.

... at least that's what I would do.

A super high Constitution sorcerer going for the Blood Witch PrC. Theres just something about draining an enemies blood and constitution to Maximize the Fireball you throw at his friends.

A twinked out Incantrix.

A dwarven Slayer, from Bad Axe Game Heroes of High Favor. Having something like 15+ feats to smash your favored enemies is too cool.

I'd probably make a Human 6th-level Wizard (no matter from which region), with Improved Initiative and Spell Focus (Enchantment) as 1st-level feats, and growing up from there.

Only prospect for the future would be the Archmage PrC.

some really cool ideas coming in here, i liked the human shade idea.

i dont know how long it will last as a campaign, all i do know is it is based in silverymoon, that is where we all start, and we get 13,00gp to spend along with 6 levels.

anybody elses ideas are welcome still, though to narrow it down, could it have at least one rogue level in it please. any other classes are cool so post them too, but i will only actually think about seriously using a character with at least a level of rogue.

Halfling Rogue/Paladin mounted on an ostrich? I don't know where you get the stats for the ostrich, but it sounds cool.

The sneaky holy warrior is kind of a cool concept. The holy spy.

actually, our group's "relief" DM just told us to make up 6th level characters for a one-shot.

i made up a halfling Bard 6, though halfling Barbarian 4 / Rogue 2 was my second choice.
