Me too. I never get to play the fighter. Someone else always takes it first. :(

I know the feeling. I've played this game for 12 years and I've never once been a fighter. I seem to *always* be clerics or druids.

Closest I came to a fighter was a halfling war cleric ;)

that elven cleric idea could be freakishly deadly if it led to the order of the bow initiate and zen archery had allready been taken when that PrC gives it for free, bab+ dex mod+ wis mod = much death. if you can convince him to let you take master archer from quintessential fighter later you will be a god among men.

anyway joust was a game that hit arcades in the early 80s (correct me if i'm wrong about the timeframe, i was 6 when i first played joust. that means it existed in 1983) in which, warriors of great courage and skill would engage in contests that involved riding what basically ammounted to flying ostriches and trying to kill each other. apparently the underside of the birds was so well protected that the only way to score a hit was to ensure that when you made contact with your opponent, your ostrich was slightly elevated above your opponents and you were facing him. the ostriches also had a good jumping ability. that is th premace of joust as i see it. i played it mostly on my atari, along with missle command and decathalon. does anyone remember the 1500m run at the end of decathalon? the memory makes my arm hurt.

reigns of flying, prerequisites= craft wonderous item, fly. market price: 40,000gp this item allows a mount to fly, controlled by the rider. the rider must be skilled in riding flying creatures to properly control the mount. (feat?)

Not necessarily a good thing. Straight cleric won't do as much damage, but the utility of full clerical spellcasting with no multi-classing is very useful.

At higher levels divine favor easily equals weapons spec feat and all such. At 15th level the archer cleric will deal:
1d8 + 4 STR + 5 Bow + 5 Arrow + 2 bracers + 5 divine favor + 1 point blank shot = 1d8 + 22 damage. OotBI will have hard time doing as much, since he won't have magical arrows just a spell away.

They key is to quicken or persistant both Divine Power and Divine Favor.

I just made a 9th level PC for a Waterdeep game at my FLGS, and I went 3rd rogue/6th ranger. Keen Rapier and Disarming Whip! And last night I watched Raiders, so I'm all psyched up to play!

So I recommend a rogue/ranger. If you're in Silverymoon, you just might want a bunch of wilderness skills, and rangers also get the Big Four(tm): Hide, Move Silent, Spot and Listen.

it will be set in silverymoon, but unfortunately there are two rangers in the party, a cleric, a mage and a psychic warrior. this means i need to play the rogue.
so far i have had this idea:

human fighter 2/rogue 3/sorcerer 1

he has the feats:
dodge
mobility
spring attack
weapon finesse-spiked chain
proficiency-spiked chain

spells:
mage armor
expeditious retreat

tactics:
readied actions, attacks of opportunities and spring attacks are his main weapon, with expeditious retreat he can move 30 feet, attack then move back again.

what do you think???

I would go for a Evoker specialized Sorceror
A fighter/rogue 2/4 spiked chain freak. (I play one who is 12th level with a PrC made for spiked chain rogue guild enforcer called a black chain. its a blast)
Or the alternate character for the game I run A 1/2 Orc paladin with a Saber tooth Mount. Nasty... Well a nasty Image. the sabertooth isn't much better than a heavy War horse (though it would have been but I tweaked it more for the image than reality)

Those would be what I want to play though I tend to play the filler character, ie whatever the party needs, becuase I like playing just about everything and developing the Personality is a bigger challenge than tweaking for power or image.

No Combat Reflexes? Seems like that's the biggest benefit of the spiked chain.

Course, you don't have a lot of spare feats there...

i do have one feat left to choose, but combat reflexes only helps with multiple enemies, it just seems too specialised.

also, my DM has agreed to let me take the spellfire wielder feat for RP purposes. i am not 100% positive if i want it though

If he's offering it, then you DON'T want it... And the rest of your party wont want a member with it either. You'll be spending the rest of your days on the run from everyone, good and bad... high powered groups and individuals... EVERYONE wants to get their hands on Spellfire wielders!!!
