What character would you play, by role?

Well, I can play almost any class and have fun with it, so I'd have to take a look at what the rest of the party is composed of and try to work in some good tactics and what-not.

But in general...

STRIKER: Deva Avenger. "The thousand lives I've lived have given me myriad ways to kill you, creature. A pity you'll only enjoy one."

LEADER: Tiefling Tactical Warlord. "All the others can play in their reindeer games, frolicking around. Devils play for keeps. Now spit out your blood and raise your blade, and charge when I command it."

CONTROLLER: Dwarf Druid. "Aye, 's true I haven't seen the light of day in quite a while. Do ya ken what I've become, down in tha' darkness? Do y' feel the earth tremble?"

DEFENDER: Half-Orc Fighter. "I had a miserable childhood, and unfortunately for you, this spear is my escape mechanism. Hey! Don't run!"

I like being cheesy. :)

Defender: I love the heroic meatshield, so sword and board fighter for me. Probably human, tho dwarves are pretty awesome here.

Striker: Avenger! Looks like a good spot for an Elf.

Leader: Tiefling bard. D&D is METAL!

Controller: Quite like the invoker and the wizard. Human wizards get that 3rd at-will... huge. Devas have a lot of style.

Man, I wish I played more...

PS

Striker - Goliath Avenger

Defender - Dragonborn Paladin

Leader - Human Cleric

Controller - Deva Invoker.

Yeah, I've always liked playing Clerics and Paladins, so I really dig the Divine source. :)

I might play a Spellsword or a Wizard. If Monks were around, I'd play a monk. :)

Defender: Probably Warden right now, although I haven't tried out all the fighter ideas I like either.

Striker: Barbarian (probably Thaneborn) or Sorcerer.

Controller: Deva Invoker. I've already messed around with wizards a lot, even none of the games lasted all that long. I'm not sure that the druid adequately fills this role.

Leader: I'd probably return to cleric or warlord (probably resourceful or tactical). But I just played a warlord in our last campaign, so I'm sort of looking to take a break.

Defender: Warden. I love their daily mechanics.

Striker: Wild magic sorcerer. Full of awesome.

Controller: Druid!

Leader: Shaman or bard depending on the nature of the campaign and the other characters. Neither of these two really jumps out at me, but I think either could be fun to play.

Striker - Human Rogue.

Defender - Human Fighter.

Leader - Human Warlord.

Controller - Human Wizard.

That would be my first choice, all else being equal.

Oh, good question. I'm torn on a couple of these, but if you made me pick I'd choose:

Striker: Dragonborn sorcerer (dragon sorcerer.) Wow, these guys are fun, combining the close blasts of a wizard with the damage of a rogue. I'd even consider a kobold if I didn't mind the sub-optimal stats. A half-orc cut-throat rogue or a deva warlock are also tempting.

Defender: Dwarven earth warden. I like the idea of a dwarf so in tune with the earth that it responds for him.

Leader: Deva warlord. I think devas are incredibly cool, and I have an image of a legendary commander who keeps coming back from death again and again.

Controller: Kobold druid. His favored wildshape form would be a giant rat.

Defender: Very reluctantly Warden, probably Longtooth Shifter. I'm not crazy about their flavor, but I've always been bored with Fighters, and I'm currently playing a Paladin and two Swordmages. So I figure I owe the Warden a shot.

Leader: About to start a Human Shaman Saturday. I'm Human primarily to take advantage of that extra At-Will. Almost every new class in PHBII has more than four At-Wills, most of them very well-balanced and well-designed, which makes the Human more attractive than ever. Plus, it's just fun have three options instead of two, even when your back is against the wall and you're out of Dailies and Encounters.
Also curious about Clerics. Playing an Elf with a longbow that refluffs his lazer powers as blessings cast on his arrows sounds fun.

Striker: Gnome Sorcerer! Probably Wild. My absolute favorite class/race combo in 3.5e, and I'm very happy about its 4e incarnation. Human Avenger is also very tempting. Barbarians and Rogues are also cool, but not my style (I prefer characters with a spell-casting flavor, if you haven't noticed). Only Rangers look truly unattractive to me; yeah, they're good, but I'd get sick of just Twin Striking every round.

Controller: Human Invoker. I've been trying to play a Controller for the longest time, but every group I join always already has one. I'm not crazy about the Invoker's flavor, but their mechanics are great. I'm a very cautious player, the sort of person that would feel very conflicted about using blast and burst attacks that include my allies in their wake. What's cool about Invokers is that so many of their powers target enemies, and enemies only. Some even add Leader-like bonuses to allies, so I can blast away, guilt-free! Druids and Wizards are also very cool, though, so I'd be willing to play any of them. But whatever I pick, I'll definitely be playing as a Human.
