What character would you play, by role?

Striker: I'd say barbarian, but I'm currently playing one, so I've got that out of my system. Kind of. You can never have too much bbn love. So I'll go with elf avenger.

Defender: Dragonborn paladin.

Leader: Shaman. Already played a cleric, the others don't particularly grab me.

Controller: Either a druid or invoker. Leaning towards druid right now because I have this vaguely uninterested feeling for the invoker. I haven't actually read it at all, though, so in my mind it's just 'divine wizard.'

Defender: Dragonborn tempest fighter wielding katars
Leader: Eladrin tactical warlord
Striker: Artful dodger rogue, star pact warlock, or a fullblade wielding avenger
Controller: Staff/orb wizard focusing on force/lightning/thunder spells

Leader: Eladrin Tactical Warlord
Controller: Eladrin Staff of Defense Wizard, storm-themed
Defender: Dragonborn Battlerager Fighter

Regardless of role, I'd choose Dragonborn...and probably favor one of Fighter, Paladin or Warlock. And yes, that might mean I'd wind up with a race & class combo that doesn't necessarily fit the archetypal PC for a given role.

Don't have many of the newer classes, yet, so this is mostly PHB/FRPG.

Leader: Elven Cleric
Defender: Swordmage (not set on race)
Striker: Halfing Rogue or Elven Ranger (like both equally well)
Controller: no idea

I think I have a bit of "new envy" so there are a lot of new things I want to try.

Striker: Half-orc Rogue or Dragonborn Sorcerer (would depend on if there is a warlord in the party or not)
Leader: Dwarf Shaman
Defender: Goliath Fighter
Controller: Human Invoker or Human Druid (can't decide)

Controller: Invoker, but only for variety, not sure on race
Defender: Swordmage, probably Eladrin
Leader: Probably Artificer in the long run (not sure on race), but my first 4e character is going to be an Elf Cleric
Striker: Dragon Magic Sorcerer, not sure on race (going dragonborn seems like overkill)

I kind of like Arcane classes .

Defender: Shifter wildblood warden
Leader: Tiefling resourceful warlord
Striker: Halfling chaos sorcerer
Controller: Human druid

Defender: Earthsoul Genasi Warden. Nothing like shrugging off save ends effects and knocking people flat left and right.

Striker: Barbarian. Either dwarf or goliath depending on what I want to do with the feats. I like my strikers reckless.

Leader: Cunning bard, either Tiefling or Half-Elf depending on feats. I really like the idea of getting a third at-will as a half-elf, but not sure how much I'd like the hit of only having a 16 Int at 1st level.

Controller: Not sure. Either Invoker or Druid just to try them out.
