What class for a "smart warrior"?

I don't get it. You're looking for a Fighter who relies on Intelligence or Wisdom. Why not just go with a Fighter as-is? Depending on the build, Wisdom can be almost as vital as Strength. Just make a Fighter with high Wisdom, and build yourself accordingly.

Let's see...

Tactical Warlord, or Resourceful, obviously.

Swordmage was mentioned...
Artificer or Cunning Bard are also really good 'smart warrior' builds.

Polearm fighters get a lot of upside from Wisdom...

...but I'm shocked no one has mentioned this.

Wildblood Warden!

I play a tactical warlord who happens to have the highest Int of his party (at a minor hit to Str), and I've never had as much fun with a D&D PC . . . ever.

YMMV, of course, but there's nothing better than being a cross between Reed Richards and Captain America.

Tactical Warlord, Strength-based Cleric.

Speaking of Strength based cleric, a strength based Paladin can also work, as Wisdom is useful for secondary effects (number of lay on hands, or the equivalent, per day). Also the strength based powers for the paladin are less overtly magical than the charisma based ones.

Never could figure out a fully satisfying way to create a Ulysses archetypal character. A Strength Wisdom fighter was kind of close.

I've really come to hate the 4E concept that Einstein can kick Jackie Chan's ass in a sword fight because he is smarter than Jackie is fast (or in 4E terms, because he is smarter than Jackie is strong).

Next splat book, I can use my Cha to climb up a tree better or my Dex to lift up a heavier rock.

The way I look at it for swordmage, bard and avenger (the main culprits) is that it represents presistant magical buffs. Since they are all implement users i think this works out fine. In 3e classes like these could often be buffed to almost the same level as melee types. The melee training feat though...hmmm

Well, maybe this could be the case if Einstein were using his intellect to formulate the Theory of Stabbitivity.

I mean, a Swordmage IS an expert of the science of stab, not physics here.

A more apt comparison would be Batman vs Jackie Chan...

...altho Jackie Chan is really more of a Charisma based fighter than any strength OR speed. He's good at running away tho.

Probably an Artful dodger rogue.

Mind you, once you wrap your head around Intellegence-based weapon users such as the Swordmage and Artificer, Melee Training is pretty much a no-brainer to accept... I mean, is it hard to accept you can use a sword slash technique to create an explosion of fire, but be less proficient at slashing the sword -without- the fire?
