What classes in wizard of oz?

Can I use WICKED (the book, not the musical) as a reference?

Dorothy: Human Rogue5/Assassin1
Cowardly Lion: Awakened Animal Barbarian2 (+ racial HD)
Tin Man: Warforged Fighter5/Juggernaut1
Scarecrow: Awakened Straw Golem Bard5

Glinda: Human Aristocrat2/Sorcerer5
Elphaba (Wicked Witch West) Tiefling Sorcerer7
Nessarose (Wicked Witch East) Human Cleric5
The Wizard Human Rogue6/Wizard1

Monkeys: Advanced Monkeys with the Winged Template
Chistery (head monkey) Awakened Monkey with winged template

I could probably go on, but that is the main characters...

Given how much of Oz is in the public domain now, I really think it's astonishing no D20 publisher has redrawn the basic map, given us a Talking Animal template (or even basic race), done up Ozian magic and so on. There's also quite a few unusual monsters and magic items to be statted up.

Oz was the Harry Potter of its day, and L. Frank Baum, like Arthur Conan Doyle, once wished to stop writing the books he was best known for, but his audience badgered him into going back there. It's amazing that, 100 years later, despite the popularity of the film and the popularity of the new music (far better than the novel, IMO), this gauntlet hasn't been picked up.

I'd use the generic classes from Unearthed Arcana, but with one modification: change the spellcaster class to two advanced class; one for arcane and one for divine.

If Oz was a D&D campaign and guessing the classes off the show are two different things. I'm with those who say outside of the witches, you'd have lots of NPC classes for everyone. My picks for their classes are as if it was a D&D game using core classes.

* The Witches: Sorceress
* The Wizard: Rogue, with 'bluff', 'disguise', and 'use magic device' max out to pretend to be a wizard

* Order of the Ruby Slippers:
- Dorothy: Cleric - she healed the warforge Tin-Man, casted break enchantments on the charmed Lion, and so on...
- Scarecrow: Wizard - unfortunately his INT wasn't too high so he casted only cantrips...
- Tin-Man: Ranger
- Cowardly Lion: Barbarian

* Monsters:
- Munchkins - halflings
- Flying Monkeys - winged goblins

There is no divine magic in Oz.

Whatever floats your boat.

Right back at you. I mean, you could easily put it in, but there is exactly one church in the source material and no mention of any gods. If you're using the generic classes anyway, I certainly wouldn't reintroduce the arcane/divine split.

Dorothy: Human Commoner
Tinman: Tin Golem
Scarecrow: Straw Golem
Lion: Lionfolk Commoner

Racially you could do an Eberron Wizard of Oz series. Dorothy is human, Tinman a warforged & lion a shifter. Scarecrow is the only one without a good analog.

I don't suppose this has too much to do with anything, but I felt I should share this picture, considering the topic. Image sblocked for pageloading speed happiness.
