What could cause House Cannith to split up (And would this help it along)?

Love of Awesome

First Post
Hi.

I have a basic concept of what's going on in house cannith. Three leaders in the house want to control it, on one hand you have Jorlanna D'Cannith who is technically the rightful heir but she had a thing going with a Denieth member and nobody trusts her now, then you have Merrix who has an iron-fisted hold on the southen interest and is doing illegal experiments in his basement, we all know the story, and then we have Zorlan, who i don't know that much about...

My question is this. What could cause the three interests to split apart, and form their own hosues? Would there be three different hosues, or what? And what would the effects be of this split up on a grand scale?

Kind of long and geeky thing ahead. You've been warned...

I ask because i'm running an Eric Flints 1632 style campaign, where an american city gets warped into eberron. Specifically they get warped into Darguun in the Torlaac Moor. I know conflicts with the goblin clans will occur, but i'll deal with that later.

The first part of the campaign involved the americans getting warped into Darguun and some of the miain american characters decide to put together an exploration to see what had happened (suspecting an attack on america even though nothing happened to them), reallizing that they weren't in america anymore, when they see a dinosaur, and they get one of the local pilots to fly there planes to help with the investigation, and hten she spots a flying ship coming towards the city...

Then the scene switches to a big huge battle between the Eberron main characters and the emerald claw and trecherous lyrandar pilot battling on said airship, and eventually landing/crashing into the airfield.

Now said pilot who is flying the airplane is a 16 year old girl who comes from a big family of mechanical prodigies (have been since the car was invented).
One eberron character is a 17 year old Cannith prodigy who is completely obsessed with airships, and has been since he was a kid. In the confusion of all that's going on, notices the girl pilot coming out of her airplane and is enthralled by her beauty.

Soon the two wind up working together and falling in love, and he eventually proposes to her, and she says yes. Eventually House Cannith hires Thurrashk to go look for him, and they do. He comes back claiming he's married to one of these mysterious americsns.

Could this cause conflict in the house? If so would it be house a splitting conflict, or would it just be a tug on the thread that will eventually tear the house apart?

If treated as the "new" technology then yes, it can lead to a split. Whomever has the control of the new "magic" instantly has the other two house leaders as an enemy.

I'm sure the Gnomes with a feel for "traditional" technology may also have special interest.

The oreos under the seat with have the halflings taking special interest.

I don't mean to make that sound silly but EVERY nation, dragonmarked family and for that matter... dragon, will want to know more and seek out the city of the strange ones and first befriend then strip them of all knowledge and power.

Well it's my campaign, and while i know they would all have interests, i like to think some of them would form alliances.

The Good

I could see King Boranel siding with the americans. He wouldn't unionize
with them, but he could certainly see the kindred spiritualism with the two nations.

I've always wanted to see King Kaius as one of the good guys, so i'm pinning him as the sort of "Oronis" of my setting. He's slowly going from lawful evil, to lawful good. One of the characters is a Karrnathi knight who is part of a secret order of warriors that Kaius is putting together to help battle the Emerald Claw. Through a series of events he discovered that the Emerald Claw was going to ambush the Airship that will eventually crash in Liberty (the city that got warped). Through a bit of diplomacy he agrees to act as a sort of "Diplomat" between Karrnath and the RNA (Republic of New America. They only have one state right now, and plan to change there name when the get more).

Another character is an Adarian Kalashtar named Taelikina (everyone calls her Tael) and a mysterious Psiforged Scout named Shard. Tael immediately begins to take a liking to the americans (Kalashtar like everybody but hey), and begins to study there history. She soon discovers about their conflicts with 'Communist Nations" and sees the parallels between "communism" and Reidra. She begins to worry about this, so she goes to Samuel Smith (Leader at the moment until they get there constitution rectified), and explains everything about what the quori are, and what's happening in Sarlona. Surprisingly he believes her (Hey if you were just warped into an entirely new universe where a magical ship just crashed into your airfield, and you had a knight, a magic user, and two magical robots you'd probably believe it too) so he agrees to recognize a new agency called P.I.E.S. (Psionic Investigation and Enforcement Service) which on the outside helps out investigations with their psionic powers, and on the inside they act as a sort of vigilant against psionic invasion from Dal Quor. This ties into Adar eventually, but i don't know what yet.

The Bad

I've decided to play Aundair as one of the bad guys. They'll be the ones trying to cause another war so they'll probably try to use the new alliances with america as an excuse.

Riedra. It's to full of Juicy badness to pass up! and as i said an agency has been created to help prevent Riedra from waging psionic guerilla warfare.

Blood of Vol

The Ugly

Darguun. New America encompasses all of the Torlaac Moor so that means they practically took land from Darguun. That's gonna cause problems. Still i haven't really played out how this ends yet.

Thrane. The whole "freedom of Religion" thing is bound to cause all kinds of problems with thrane.

The dragonmarked houses would probably be a little torn apart on this one. Cannith would certainly be interested in New America, and Jorasco would be interested in it's medical sciences, and the list goes on. But it could also cause economic tensions between the american businesses and the houses.

As for the dragons. I'm putting together this ancient theory that dragon scholars had, but was dismissed as pure myth. The basic idea was that the Eberron universe was not alone, and that in fact when the world was created, the material came from these other universes. Syberis was the one that gathered these materials from the multiverse, but that Khyber tried to steal the materials for his own, and that is where the war originated from. The scholars also claimed that this is where the lesser races came from. Every once in a while Syberis would take beings from one of these multiverses and send them to this world, and maybe transport beings from this wolrd to that world in the process. Of course everyone thought this was crazy until.... So the chamber is beginning to keep a close eye on them and has requested that the dragons of Argonnesson take no direct action with them... Yet....

Oh and by the way, this is a silly idea, but it is an awesome silly idea, and i stand by it.
