What d20 author do you buy sight-unseen?

With the pre-orders and chattering about Ptolus still floating about, it's clear people are on the Monte bandwagon (myself included). This had me wondering what other d20 authors people are attached to. And equally as important, what work of that author "sold" you on him/her?

For me, it would have to be Mike Mearls. I don't know if it was one book as much as it was his body of work that sold me on him early on in d20. I'll point to his FFG hardcovers including Wildscape and Portals and Planes for references.

Bruce Cordell. Maybe it's his great material on psionics, or maybe it's because of products like Return to the Tomb of Horrors, but the man just does incredible work.

As much as I like your stuff, Bret, you are not him (though I will take a longer look at your work). Okay, now that the brown nosing is over ;)

It is, without a doubt, the Sigil. The man is a genius of d20 and deserves to be much better known. I wish his work was in print, not for me, but so non-pdf people can bask in the glory of his writing. The creation of new rules (like the crafting rewrite in the Enchiridion of Treasures and Objects D'Art), classes (the synergist class in the Enchiridion of Elided Enduements of the Expanse) and types of magic (the ensorcling in ETOD) are all his specialty. I wish Spencer would write more. I wish a larger company like GR would sell his stuff in print.

None. I check out everything first. I've been burned too often.

Same here. Although, I must admit I really like everything that I have seen from Steve Kenson. Therefore, his name on a product is a guarantee that I will at least give the product a look.

None for me as well. I make my judgements based on how interesting I find the content more than the author. I went down the "follow the writer/artist/whatever" bandwagon back when I collected superhero comics. I don't do that sort of thing any more.

Sight unseen also depends on the subject matter of the book in question and whether I feel I can use it. However, there is a short list of authors that will increase the likelihood of a purchase for me.

*Michelle Lyons
*Jason Parent
*Ari Marmell
*Bret Boyd
*Chris Pramas (his Warhammer RPG stuff is great)
*Mike Mearls
