What did you do when Gary Gygax died, ingame?

First Post
I was reading up something on Gary Gygax, the Creator, on wikipedia.
I discovered Mordenkainen, Tenser, and others, were some of his characters. I didnt' have any idea! I discovered it while browsing the Circle of Eight forum (houses a mod team for Temple of elemental evil, the pc game).

This made me remember when Gary died, back in 2008.
My DM of the time (which is still a player in my game) made us stumble upon a tavern while we were riding on adventure.
We were approached by a strange man in a grey robe, named "Gray". We asked why he knew us, and he said he created us, he created everyone in the multiverse.
I remember asking the DM if he had a nice "texture" (like a pc-game) as a joke, trying to understand if he was important or just a random encounter. He answered in-characte, saying he had been really important in the past, as he was the creator of everything.
At first, we thought he was just a strange gay, maybe a magic vision. But then he said it was time for him to go. And he was going away forever, leaving behind us all the worlds he created.
It was then that we thought about his name, the anagram of Gary, of course.
We bid him farewall, IC and OOC, and we observed a minute of silence.
It was very touching to me.

Just wanted to share this, as i think everyone of us owes something to him.
Did you guys do anything similar on the first sessions after Gary's death?

We weren't involved in a regular campaign, but were about to start a new one (WFRP, I believe). However, in honour of Gary we postponed the start of that campaign and ran an old-school D&D dungeon crawl instead. A really great session, that.

My one regret was that we ran it in 3.5e. I would have preferred to run the session in 1st Ed (or even OD&D), but alas I lacked the time to familiarise myself with those rules.

That's neat, having done something IN-game. I don't believe I had heard a story like that before. Our group didn't do anything like that. I recall it was a weekend and I don't think we played the actual night.

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of the Father of Board Wargames, as it happens.

In the session after EGG died, the heroes in my regular campaign liberated a city and were appointed its new guardians. The city had been named after its now deposed tyrant, so the PCs decided to rename the city. (Something I hadn't even expected they would do.) They renamed it the City of Gygax.

Well no in-game play on the event, but at least I attended Gen Con 07, took a smoke break and had EGG light my cigarette - when I noticed his name tag, I almost fell off the stairs! At least I got to meet him at his last year appearing a Gen Con. It was certainly an honor.

Mordenkainen is still alive in my campaigns. The PC's know about him, but have never met him yet.

We didn't do anything in game, but we did toast him and I passed around his obituary/final page article in The Economist.
