What do people buy with thier gold?

First Post
I was wondering what everyone's adventures purchase using the wealth they collect from thier adventures. Spells? More Weapons? Perhaps an exotic item? a House or Boat? etc..

Post interesting items, or perhaps basic items you seem to spend your gold on.

Healing potions, and curative measures...

New magic items gold allowing and availability allowing (but they are pretty rare to purchase in my games)

Occasionaly replacements for lost items, or broken weapons/armour

Mounts, supplies...arrows...

Temple donations

Scrolls

Buying passage to here or there

My group aren't really the Stronghold building types sadly.... despite me providing them the opportunity to do so on several occasions.

Any group I've ever played with always wants to build their own tavern for some reason. They gather thousands of gold and gems just to be able to do so.

Heh. The players in my current campaign bought a tavern they heard was about to go under, and turned it around. First time we've done anything like that, but then this is the first campaign I've run that didn't have an ongoing story, and therefore allowed time for this sort of thing.

My players don't buy magic items because I refuse to have magic items for sale in most of my campaigns. They want magic, they either quest for it, find it by chance, or make it themselves.

But that's just me. :)

For individual PCs, what they buy depends on their character classes, mostly. A fighter-type will undoubtedly buy enchanted armour, shields and weapons. Rogue-types will want stuff like Cloaks of Elvenkind (best item in the game--too powerful for the price, really), Rings of Blinking, etc. Wizards and Sorcerers usually go for scrolls from my experience (wizards for learning, sorcerers to use), some wands, bracers of armor, etc. Everyone likes stat boosters.

Sometimes parties pool together to buy things beneficial for all parties involved: bags of holding and wands of healing are common.

Anything else is basically upto the individual player/character. There are lots of "fun" magical items (immovable rod, to name one), and even non-magical stuff is great. Strongholds, etc, also fall into this category: my ranger couldn't care less about owning a section of the forest. Who needs the responsibility? Maybe when he retires, but certainly not now... On the other hand, my (now deceaced) sorcerer would have loved to create a college of sorcery (ie for Sorcerers only). It all depends on the character.
A good rule of thumb is to buy stuff that will enhance your abilities, or maybe make up for some shortcoming of the character.

Potions. Lots and lots of potions and scrolls.

Luxurious living conditions.

Flashy looking items.

Prostitutes.

Magic items.

in that order of priority.

Our group buys scrolls for the wizard to scribe, and we tend to blow massive amounts of gold on constructing our own magic items. We have craft arms+armor, wands, scrolls*2, and wonderous items, so we can pretty much make anything we want, except for potions. For some reason, we've found lots of extra rings, so we don't need to make them. At one point, I think we had less cash and gems than we started the game with because all our loot was going into equipment.

I'm hoping to buy an artifact when I get enough gold. Nothing fancy, just perhaps Bloodlust. Or maybe a patch of Dweomer Crystals...

Buy??

I usually give my gold away to commoners. I ususally play characters with other motivations. I wonder when my current party will figure out not to let me hold valuable treasure. My heart just cries out to those under payed commoners who suffer for so much of their lives.
