My first thought was lightning bolt. But I guess I'm used to being higher level than your characters were at the time.

Even if it's a normal raven, you can't go wrong with lightning bolt. ESPECIALLY if it's a normal raven.

No detect magic, no detect evil where availible to us. Plus being only second level we don't have melf's acid arrow or fireball.

That was our first thought two, but when one of the characters missed rolling a 22 to hit, we knew something was up with that bird.

Either it was a raven with a template or it was something else polymorphed into a raven.

See the first post to find out what it looked like when it shaped changed. We still don't know exactly what it is though. It claims to be from the Plane of Shadow but I'm not buying that.
