If I can I have the Character step out. Like hes gonna remain in town for some reason or another. But when unable to do this I have them come down with DUNGEONROT.
DUNGEONROT is an ailment caused by bacteria most notably found in dungeons and other remote areas. There is no known cure but it is only temporary. Characters effected by dungeonrot can move at a slow rate but remain in a perpetucal state of exhaustion.
I hate Marking characters or playing them myself. I prefer mostly to write them out though sometimes thats not practical within the story. Also i have had players not show up in attempt to keep their charcter alive because the week before we had ended in a perilous situation. Proclaiming the muth that charcters cant be killed if the player is not there. WRONG
