What do you do?

My mini experience is limited but, thanks to the D&D Mini line, I am getting a fairly decent collection built up. My problem is I have nowhere near what I would like. With literally hundreds of monsters to choose from I nowhere near have a mini to represent each species of monster, let alone a mini to represent each individual. I was just wondering what those of you who use miniatures do? Do you use any extra mini you have available to represent what you need? Do you do a mini/token or mini/cardboard mini combo? Its becoming obvious that I will never have an amount to satisfy me. But I am struggling because the minis look so nice to me that to put them with some sort of paper marker would be blasphemous. I guess my choices are fairly limited and straightforward. Either I make do with what I got or I accept having to use paper. I was curious though to hear some of you EN Worlders have done. Thanks in advance.

www.fierydragon.com has some very nice card stock counters, for a good price. If you really don't want to mix cardboard and mini, you can always just pretend whatever the mini is something else.

Edit: Personally, my group just uses our imagination with the mini's we have

Thanks for your thought. I guess it's almost to the point of a rhetorical question.

If you are used to using them, I guess there are never enough. I'll give you an example. I now have 20 various orcs. Rather than thinking how cool that is, my first thought was "what if I need 21?" Talk about greed and/or coveting. I have seen Fiery Dragons and Sword & Sorcery's counters. I actually like all oftheir sets. Also, I especially like their dragon counters. I have also tried my hand at making my own. I am in the process of turning an Arcane from the DC Heroclix line into a right smart looking drider. I think when he is completely done he will look quite nice.

I think your thought about using your imagination is especially good, since that is sort of the point of the whole hobby. :) I guess if I was more concerned with creating dioramas I would want to be nitpicky. But since the idea is to have fun, I reckon I can bend a little. I mean the miniatures are supposed to suppliment the game, right? Not the other way around.

Even those of us who have buuilt up huge painted miniature collections do not have just the right miniature sometimes. Use a substitute - skeleton for a wraith or a couple of goblins for extra orcs. It's sad but sometimes we have to do it ;)

In fact what you say is one of the (minor) reasons why I didn't buy a single miniature... I don't like having something uncomplete (I recognize it's not a good attitude of mine). Rather than having s few minis and have to come up with coins for the missing ones, I prefer to use all coins :p

Pogre, I am really glad you posted. I followed your link, and looked at your minis and dungeons and thought to myself "crud, no matter what I do it'll never look that good. So if I got to improvise, screw it. I might as well improvise."

Seriously though, that stuff is beautiful. Good job.
