What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I really wasn't. I am not with my books or character at the moment (what? No access to drivethru at work!) but I had a healing power and a power to offer re-rolls. I also had a weapon, which was decent. I just wasn't nearly as good as the other characters, and my powers still were really useful to keep us moving. I did pick up something that required a spellcasting roll when we levelled, but I don't recall what it was.

Edited to add: my secondary weapon was a grappler and with the ability to fly, I was moving everyone all over the place and out of danger too.
Most actions in DH require rolls because it is part of the metacurrency balance. It seems strange that you were able to do a bunch of stuff and not have to roll.

Looking at the character, I notice I had three abilities (I think the GM gave everyone a bonus power). They were:

I am your shield
Mending Touch
Reassurance

I also had Prayer Dice and a Flight ability.

You might say "why would you do this?" And the answer was that I wanted to have these support actions, and then have a good weapon attack, which I did. And then there was a Druid in the party who was fantastic.

I had a ton of stuff to do in combat, but it wasn't a lot of attacking. I had a decent attack, but rolled poorly each time. It sort of became a running joke in the game.

I am here to get all the ideas and hear all the cool stuff people are doing with Daggerheart that isn't high fantasy.

Tag me and tell me if you using it to run (or adjacent to) =
  • Horror
  • Modern real world magic reality
  • gumshoe mystery
  • mafia or politics

Daggerheart is a cinematic high fantasy action game. Any of those would require you to fight the system to do it successfully. Why would you bother?

Well, that is a good question.

It has a weird motherboard setting, and they are running Umbra. And each of those have custom rules for those settings one.

So ... I wonder what other people will do with a metacurrency + Stress system of Daggerheart.

If the answer comes back and "no, we are only doing 1001 flavors of high fantasy" well then, ok.

Those settings are still high fantasy tho. They don't fundamentally change the play loop. Trying to use Daggerheart for Gumshoe seems like a lot of work for little benefit.

I don't think horror would require much fighting tbh. Rolls with fear alone and taking away PC armour cause a lot of panic. And Urban Fantasy isn't that different from cinematic fantasy.

About halfway through the first pass of my thoughts on some modern(ish, going for pre-smartphone) urban fantasy stuff. Working on guidance to reflavor abilities to urban neon magic, thinking about some other reworks of the ancestries besides just “yeah those are fae.”

This was my thoughts too.

Also, let's not discount Stress....

Why is gumshoe an issue? What in gumshoe is not compatible with rolling with consequences and spending hope to do things?

I think I could fairly easily run a mystery scenario in Daggerheart. Heck adopting some bits from Brindlewood Bay or Apocalypse Keys would be fairly easy. If you mean straight up run Call of Cthulhu module type mystery probably not, but that's not a genre. That's a playstyle.
