In one my current games I'm playing as a Strix Wizard (Void school) who focuses on debuffing, divination, knowledge skills and to a lesser extent blasting as the group's only arcane caster.

At the end of our last session we advanced to 5th level, which is getting close to making a choice of sticking with pure Wizard or branching off into a prestige class.

Our group consists of...
  • Goblin Rogue (Cutpurse archetype)
  • Human Cleric of Vildies (no archetype that I know of, Healing and Rage archetype, she wanted to be like Anders from Dragon Age 2)
  • Hobgoblin Ranger (Skirmisher archetype since he's new to the game and didn't want to cast spells, Crossbow Combat Style, w/ a Giant Gecko as an animal companion)
  • Human (I think) Druid (no archetype that I know of, Leopard Animal Companion)
  • Human (I think) Fighter (Two Weapon Fighter archetype, finesse fighter)
  • And our NPC, Kobold Fighter who is infatuated with the Cleric b/c she saved his life in our first session)

As you can see, we have many melee characters and two divine characters. I'm torn between sticking with pure Wizard or going into the Loremaster PrC because our group is extremely light on arcane casting as well as a knowledge monkey.

As of right now, I'm leaning more toward straight Wizard, but please tell me which would you suggest I do and why.

Thanks a bunch! I appreciate it :)

We're not. Our races would make it seem like we are, but we're playing in a homemade campaign world where some goblinoids live in human settlements as allies, guards, farmers, alchemists and so on. We are all actually junior members of the Pathfinder Society.

My character's backstory as a Strix is a natural or unnatural disaster took place and wiped out his tribe. He was found by an Elf Wizard (Void school) and his wife an Elf Cleric of Keltheald who raised him as their own child in her temple. Due to his adoption, he considers himself an Elf it is how his parents raised him.

PrCs are really a matter of cost. If you are aiming to be a knowledge specialist then maybe you're aiming tho fulfill the prerequisites of the loremaster either way. If you are, then the PrC is free. You miss the wizard bonus feats, some familiar abilities, the lvl 8 (or thereabouts) school power, and one hp/skill point per level. If you are not aiming to get all the prerequisites, then you should weight the extra prerequisites you need to fill against the loremaster.

The loremaster and wizard are very close conceptually, so it really shouldn't make much difference in-world.
