What do you think is the best campaign setting?

Every time somebody posts a topic like this, it's the same old thing, why cant people just give their opinion on the setting they enjoy and not slam another setting in the process?

Not to be overly critical, but I've read every post in this thread and really haven't seen ANY negativity (could have missed a stray comment or two), although I agree that these threads CAN sometimes degenerate into that. In any event, ditto what you said...lots of good ideas here, pick a few, go out and see what you like :D

Hi,

I see FR get slammed alot in these type of threads, but in the end, its what you make of a campaign be it homebrew or published. Just do the rest of us a favor and leave the hate at the door.

As for decent Campaign settings, they all have their strength and weakness's, none are perfect. This is why alot of people who do have the time, do the homebrew route.

But for us that are short on time, we are left with using a published setting. But that does not mean you must follow that settings regulations to the letter of the law, you can modify it to your own tastes.

just my 2 coppers

Dawnforge (FFG): Instead of the mythical "Age of Legends" being something in the past, Dawnforge places the PCs smack in the middle of the mythical age. Characters are the heroic prototypes of what would be the later PHB races. The mechanics do a great job of modeling this and the world is just dripping with flavor...

Roger that. I love Dawnforge

Before Dawnforge was released, I would've said Scarred Lands.

I think the reason people "slam" FR is that people have grown weary with all the stuff that came out for it in 2nd edition.

In any event, I favor Scarred Lands still. But that's just little ole me.

Diamond Throne for Arcana Unearthed is very nice, though it's set up for a pretty major change soon that should make it much more interesting.

I'm not a big fan of Midnight. It's a very cool setting, there just doesn't seem to be much to do. And the hey I get magical powers sctick seems a bit distastefull, though I fully understand why they do it.

Oathbound I liked a lot. The expansions on the setting have been particularly nice, and the ability to port in other elements is very welcome. Some of the crunch is only so so, but the flavor is very well worked. Wonderful setting if you like chock full of secrets style stuff, plenty of exotic locales, intrigue that doesn't force you, and a meta-plot you can take or leave.

Conan looks sweet.

My 2 cents

Well if your going for something exotic and happen play on faerun the underdark is pretty interesting. But as a player I have the most fun by far in huge citys as long as the plot keeps moving (and dosen't suck). :D
