What do you want to play? (Just curious not DMing)

I've seen a number of people toss out post saying that they want to play in this or that type of game and lately I've seen more and more of these turn into games. (Which is simply just two cool.)

So with no poll, and the disclaimer that nothing is guarantied as this is simply for fun and that few, if any, of these will see play but wouldn’t be cool if it did?

So wants on everyone lists that they haven’t been able to find? :)

I would like to play in a game like the one I am starting. 3.5, 1st level to start, with a bit of a 1E feel to it.

That gets tossed around allot, and to be truthful I'm old and forgetful, so define this for me and the youngins that are new to the games. :)

As for me, 1st edition feel is a cross between kick in the door and role playing. CRs?! You could step outside and face most any danger. Now I do disagree with unbelievable dungeon ecology (room 1 has 4 orcs, room 1A has three gnolls). I did always enjoy playing over number crunching, losing hours in my character and my character's story. I do like 3.x over 2e, but I still love all my 1e material. While I love Emma's character sheet, I also love the old 2 pager (and I use Necromancer Game's awesome 3.5 replication of this). Maybe it is just nostalgia, I always felt the 1e multiverse a little more savage, life a bit more precious. I also wouldn't mind a fantasy game using the D20 Modern rules.

That said, I would also love a Planescape flavored campaign (I loved the 2e setting and I am looking forward to the Malhavoc book). If the game I am about to start won't suffer for it, I might try a Planescape-esque game using D20 Modern (relying heavily on Allegiance obviously instead of the alignment system).

Very good definition, I think you would make Diaglo proud with that one. :p

I know that Planescape ranks high on alot peoples list here so who knows maybe it will see the light of day. :)

Got anything on this Malhavoc book? (link?)

More information on the Malhavoc book may be found here:

It looks like it will be very good and has a lot of people involved who know exactly what they are writing about (and with r.k. post doing artwork..).

Role playing since the '80's, I see that the times have changed, as has the gaming style. As culture changes, so do people's outlooks, which even trickles down to our hobbies and interests. Growing up then, life was much more savage and much less sedate and angsty than it is now. Where PCs had to get by more on 'wits and hits' back then, there is now much more to it, with more complex game mechanics and more PC friendly rules features. I am not saying one is better than the other or that the systems cannot be interchanged to reflect the outlook of the other, I am just pointing out that there are clear and distinct differences (at least to me) in the styles of play that have happened over the years.

Yea I would love to play in a D&D 3.x game, lower to mid-level (1st through 8th I guess) that would work its way up from there... something, anything...

In order of worlds well Greyhawk, Forgotten realms would be cool, home-brew etc would be fine with me also

I'm game

I look for games starting in these worlds as well. I like the old Mystara world also. Homebrews's are often a blast, especially with a DM with well thought-out and planned worlds. Not necessarily planned down to every town and NPC for sure. But Well outlined, and imaginative that fits with the rest of the world, when someone goes out in that great un-mapped area.

Specific types of games I'd be interested in.(Some I've considered running as games myself, and may yet)

Dwarven war party in the Underdark. with Dwarven underdark Ranger's, Dwarven Cleric's, Rune Mages... battling various dangers, moving away from those too powerful now, to come back later(Dwarves don't run away from a fight just plan to win it.) Visit underdark cities and outposts, uncover plots against the dwarves and thwart them.

A clutch of Doppleganger's working to take over a country. Leveling could be worked out with the Savage species book. Take a level in Doppleganger or a class when moving up with experience. start out in outlying towns, and move up to city life, plan, earn and save money to support schemes, infiltrate organizations counter to the clutches goals.

A paladin and his cohorts. Often when there is a Paladin in a group, he does not actually get played as the epitome of the Paladin, because of varying alignments in the party, and "keeping player conflict out". This way the paladin can go all out, and the cohorts, mage, cleric, squire(fighter), sage, Butler etc. can all play a clear role. I'd be happy to play the butler, or squire in a supportive role. I have a variation on this that I am planning. I'll post a game start thread if I follow through with it.

I'm currently DMing a warband of Orcs, but would love to play in this type of game myself. Shameless plug for my Story Hour in my sig below. I've seen a Pbp game with Ogre's as the primary PC, and read through all of that, looks like fun.

I'll stop here and let others post their ideas.

Dragonstar might be fun to play. A D20 conversion of Torg, which would require a lot of work by the converter, would be interesting too.

Though, what I'd sign up in an instant for would be a Hero System/Champions game. Not sure that system would work as well as D20 games do in a PBP environment, but it's always been my favorite system.
