What do you want to see in a new magazine?

Well, I see your name in the queue. Hmm, I'll have the webmaster figure this one out. Stay tuned today and see if it comes.

It never did. :) I've sent the "I didn't get it" e-mail as described.

I think you sir are our ideal subscriber...I think pretty much everything you mentioned is exactly what we are doing. I think you, and others like you, will be pleased. :) ;)
If that's true, you're on the right track to grab me as a subscriber, too; pretty much everything finarvyn said is what I'd like to see, also.

I started this thread to see if there were things I didn't think about when designing a magazine. It turns out Finarvyn nailed most of what we are doing. Please take a look at our web-site and I am sure you will agree,

The true test comes when we release Issue #0. First though, I have to get the mailing list working properly. :D :p

Bare with us, changing the world takes time :) ;)

okay, as of this post I sent the mailing list confirmation again. If you don't get it by say midnight central time, please send me an e-mail again saying, "I didn't get it" in the subject line.

If you got one twice, sorry, we are trying to work out a bug in the system.

Cross your fingers.

I hope this works, I have articles to write. ;)

1) Basic articles about classes and campaign worlds as usual
2) Critical Threat.... I enjoyed the usual template / creature builds
3) Articals on "dead" worlds.
4) Interviews with key people (current and back to 1e) about the game, inspirations, fav sessions and so on.
5) Excellent cover art and interior art. My art inside would be nice ;)
6) "Bits & Pieces" What are people doing that is different with their games of EB or FR or even homebrews
7) Miniature converage (NOT just DDm, Confrontation and Reaper plus others)
8) Contests that involve the imagination- not just game knowledge

PRINTED COPIES TO HOLD AND CHERISH (my computer sucks)

More of my articles. And some form of compensation for them (I've found that getting money out of many small-press zine publishers is like pulling teeth).

We formed this magazine to be a printed magazine, period! We know there are some who prefer PDF as much as we love a real magazine, so we will offer that, but most of our focus will be on printed material.

Just what do you mean by "Dead" world. A world of undead? A world were magic is dead?

If you want to submit art, the cover is handled for the premeir issue, but we are on the look out for other cover art and while I am a capable artist in my own right, I don't have the time to do all the art work myself. We have submission guidelines on our web-site, www.dragonroots.net. Truthfully, if you want in on the premeire issue as far as art goes and can work with a quick deadline, we can use some interior art. So submit a letter to c.e.rocco@comcast.net and I will talk with you off of this forum.

We do have a submission process on the web-site. You might not like the fact that everyone who is working on the magazine to bring you solid content and worth reading articles is working free of charge. It is not that we have a problem paying people for their work, it is that we are starting this magazine first for love of the game and second, with a poor mans pocket book.

That said, if and when the magazine takes off and can sustain itself, we will go back and back pay our writers. If you want to be apart of something new and have something with solid content, then be all means, we are looking for you. If you want to hold off and wait until we can pay you a fair wage, then we respect that. Either way you will get paid about the same time, but one way gets you exposure quicker. Also, your work is your own, so you can allow us to use it and also sell it to other magazines or other publishing sources.

We also have enough content to fill about the first 15 issues. If you have something that will fit into one of our issues, we will either move a few things around or add pages to the magazine. So I encourage you to submit your work.

I'd like to see multiple games supported, especially in adventures. I'm sure 3x and/or 4x will be covered, but I'd like to see C&C and Savage Worlds and others (but specifically those, since I play those :) ) covered as well. Articles about other games would be nifty as well. I was perusing old Dragon magazines the other day (issues in the 80s and 90s) and it was pretty cool to see articles for various systems.

That is one thing I always loved about the old Dragon magazines. I didn't play alot of the other games, but the articles were always fun to read, especially the Mavel characters. As a comic book fan, I loved to read the stats.

The current staff doesn't play much other than D&D, but I will host articles from other games, if someone submits them.
