what does a CLW potion taste like in your world?

Let's see, when was the last time I had to describe a healing potion...

I guess it was in one of my books, not a campaign, since our DM was evil and we never saw a healing potion (although I guess it wasn't too bad; I lasted a year and just realized that now...).

A healing potion (what level was never defined, although it was probably low) comes from a Pharmacists (sp?) and is a light blue in color with a pearly-sheen. It has the consistancy of Ranch Dressing and tastes blue. Or at least that was how the bard/assassin describing the taste put it, and he ought to know, he's had to drink enough of them over the years.

Unfortunatly, the voices in my head who are able to speak to this issue are all smart a$$es and won't give me a better answer.

So, describe form, the taste, color (texture if applicable) for a basic cure light wounds healing potion (or equivalent) in your game.

Depends on where it was made, since I'm running a pseudo-historical campaign. I did have a NPC once identify an Egyptian CLW potion by "the smell of ginger and white lotus."

There are many alchemical recipies for potions of healing, but those purchased from the most common vendor, the temple of the Orshanic Host, are a pleasant orange taste and of similar hue. The stronger the potion the more vibrant the color.

Yes, I patterned the potions after... Tang. Hey, I was a kid and Tang was the astronaut's drink, and therefore cool.

I have a chart for all common potions, listing their color, taste, and smell. For instance, protection from energy (electricity) potion is blue with sivery bubbles, smells like ozone, and has a strong iron taste. Remove disease is turquoise and smells and tastes like mold. Blur is light gray, and smells and tastes like beer.

Cure light wounds: light blue color, faint herbal taste and smell (like spring water spiced with some healing herbs).

Cure moderate wounds: blue color, herbal taste and smell.

Cure serious wounds: dark blue color, strong herbal taste and smell.

Funny I always thought potions of Haste and/or Blur tastes like cofeee. ;)

Hand,

Ew. :\

CLW that tastes like Almonds?!! What are we trying to convince PCs they are being poisoned?!!

Strangely, our CLW potions are green and taste just like apples; as do a few of our poisons...

all depends on the maker. Different makers will have different brews. I don't consider all potions of one type to look, taste and smell the same.

FIGHTER: Look a potion. MAGE! What is this brew?

MAGE: *Sniff*, well it is either a Heal potion brewed by the temple of the Silver Flame....OR *Taste*, poison brewed by the Blood of Vol...

IMC, cure potions are red and smell and taste of cinnamon. The more potent the potion, the stronger the cinnamon taste.

I try to describe other potions consistantly, as well.

Cat's Grace - green, smells and tastes like catnip
Bull's Strength - brown, smells and tastes like a barn (ick)
Invisibility - clear, neither smell nor taste
Levitation - straw-colored and bubbly, smells and tastes like champagne

It's not terribly creative, but it helps to establish a consistant feel for the world.
