What does Nerf(ed) mean?

Those who feel that "nerfing" is a bad thing obviously haven't played with a nerf toy in a long time.

It predates that, as I know one friend was using it to describe changes made in Ultima Online prior to EQ's release. As I've heard it, his posts to RGCUO are the origin of the current term.

That all? I thought it was an older (perhaps not widly used) MU* term. Though I think many of thoes have died out, having never made the transistion to the modren graphical muds audtances. So it could be newer...

I find it interesting that slang terms that were invented for games that were inspired by D&D finally return full circle years and years later.
