Ditto. I thought I had hit something weird for a second.
I'm not certain I understand the point to this thread. Are we asking whether being a community supporter gears you towards one edition or another? As it stands now, this thread seems to be another "What's your favorite edition?" thread.
Color me confused.
Anyway, here's my take (if I'm understanding the intent right)...
I prefer 4th edition now, but enjoy elements from all editions of D&D. I enjoy Pathfinder and C&C. I think each system has its merits and flaws, and folks should just pick the engine that gets their game where they want to take it and respect the same choice made by others, even if they choose differently.
As for being a community supporter, I am not one for a few reasons. First and foremost, the economy has hit my family pretty hard, so it's an added expense I cannot afford at this time. I've already had to cancel my Pathfinder subscription, and my other purchases have been much fewer of late.
Second, I don't believe that I should have to pay to have certain features enabled that are offered for free on other sites (i.e. search and PM functions). To give credit where due, the subscription model is now including some nifty bonus features, like the War of the Burning Sky subscription. That's worth it right there. Personally, I would rather the search and PM functions be allocated to everyone, and the other goodies be offered as the premiums.
Third, I have other things I want to support. I'm a huge fan of Farpoint Media, in particular Slice of SciFi. They make me laugh every week. They give me a ton of scifi news that I don't get elsewhere. That's just one example. Unfortunately, I can't support everybody.
Should a person support EN World? I would say yes if they are financially able, if they feel that EN World offers an invaluable or unique resource, and if what you get in return (both in terms of premiums and service) are worth the cost. If any or all of these criteria are not meant, then you shouldn't.
I may change my mind at a later date, particularly if my family can get in a better economic state. For now, though, I'm afraid I can't do it.
