anything and everything. i even make stuff up

Right, that's it old timer. I'm placing you under arrest for having a far too active imagination. We know what you've been thinking lately, and that just isn't kosher. Off to the shiny re-education camp with you.

Quickly!

Probably humanoids of any type, undead and outsiders are the most used by me.

I wish there were more plants because I think they make for cool unexpected encounters, but there are very few plant creatures in books.

In my DARKSUN campaign Undead then Humans.

In my Forgotten Realms campaign it was humanoids easily

In my planar homebrew it has been Outsiders and Dragons

In my Eberron stuff it has been Humans, Monstrous Humanoids and as of late Outsiders and Dragons.

I can not seem to bring myself to run anything with Fey.

I've long had a preference for classed/leveled creatures. That usually means humans or other humanoids, but 3e has opened this up a bit.

Mostly humans and other humanoids although I try to throw in just about anything from time to time. Last few sessions have been almost all fey & plants.

I use every type of creature, but mostly outsiders and aberrations. I use constructs and undead quite a bit, too. Dragons I use more sparingly, but they do play a prominent role in my current campaign. Since we play at high levels, animals and vermin are few and far between.

Humanoids and monstrous humanoids tend to bore me to tears, with a few exceptions, like yuan-ti.

In order they would be roughly Humans, Humanoids, Undead, Animals (including Giant Animals), Giants, and Fey.

The others rarely if ever get used.

The last foes fought in my high level game for the last couple battles have been:

Monstrous humanoid (ulatra)

Construct (blade golem)

Monstrous humanoids (lots of asherake)
Magical beasts (frost biters, fiendish giant wasps, fiendish dire bats)

Humanoids (lots of orcs)

Outsiders (steel predators, rakshasa)

Humanoid/animal (faust wererat)
Magical beast (ash rat swarm)

And they have encountered but chosen not to fight:
Abberrations (aboleth, mindeater, naga)
Outsider (tiefling, efreeti, azer)
Humanoids (duergar, hobgoblins)
Giant (fire giant)

It varies a lot from game to game.
