What exactly is a "ravenous" zombie?

What exactly is a "ravenous" zombie? Is it like the savage template? Does it make zombies move faster or infectious or what?

Are you thinking of the "Ravenous" template from Dragon #319/Dragon Compendium, Volume 1? That's an undead-only template that gives them a bite attack, Str +4, Dex +2, Improved Grab, Feed (bite damage on a successful grapple), and Need to Feed (stops to eat kills).

Ravenous Zombies appeared in the Savage Tide AP (Dungeon Magazine), in the adventure There is No Honor. I believe Echohawk is right about the original source and abilities. That's basically them in a nutshell.
