What familiars would you like to see stat'd?

Animated Familiars. I had a Dwarven wizard that would not take on a familiar until he could make his own "Pet Rock". I figured that he would have to be 15th level (only ever got to 8th) before he could do it, but nothing else would satisfy. 15th level is the required level to make intelligent items. I just really felt that it was in character. Perhaps even Figurine of Wonderous power familiars.

Animated Spellbook(I've done this before. And he can't be lit on fire, either! Animated Objects are not effected by elemental damage, are they?)
Penguin(My Gnome Sorcerer had a Penguin Familiar)

In your book, do you think you could write a little better description on what familiars accually do? I've never really understood. Are they just little critters for magic users to talk to to prevent them from going crazy from reading so much? That was the purpose of the animated spell book at least. He was kinda funny. His face was the cover. I playing & dming(We are short players) I ruled that he could not deliver touch attacks. I did give him +20 to hide checks when in a library, though.

And what about a feat?

Bend/Change familiars will/persective
You change the perspective of your familliar/Bend it to your will

Prerequest: +4 Cha Not picked familiar yet, level 2

Benifit:You can change they alignment of your familiar 1 space, now a lawful Good mage could move the alignment of a familiar from Chaotic good to netral good and take that as a familiar.

I'll second shadow mastiff. Imagine if you will your in the forgotten realms and you've stumbled across a Shadovar dig, as you turn to flee out from the shadows steps a dusky, murk enshrounded man with a huge demonic doglike creature at his side.

This is a great idea, thankyou Ferret for mentioning the shadow mastiff. A shade shadow adept will more than likely be doing their best to magically maintain the conditions that both they and a shadow mastiff would function optimally in, and not only that they shade would probably be evil and thus immune to the bay of the shadow mastiff.

I will be devoting a good amount of the work to what familiars can do for a mage. As for animated objects... the rules allow for constructs, but I don't know if I'll have enough room to delve into all the different types objects that are possible to make... afterall there are quite a few types of animated objects ;-)

Ahh... too many people want combat munchiness for familiars. A familiars not supposed to be a body gaurd. It's supposed to be part of your 'toolkit'.

The coolest familiar - a Quark (the 1st edition CN special familiar)!

Also very broken, but I've never been so surprised and so happy to roll a natural 20 in my life.

Munchy? You want Munchy? Give me rules for having Multiple Familiars. I want 8 Formian Workers for my Dwarven Wizard. Bwa ha ha.

I've been drinking, can you tell?
