What familiars would you like to see stat'd?

How about a familiar template that you can use to make any animal you want into a familiar? Just a thought.

The rules I've come up with allow for any animal of 13 CR or less to be a familiar... that's right... including elephants or oliphants if you prefer ;-)

However, I don't think familiars should have much combat effectiveness. Most of these options presented here would be better under the Leadership feat, as a cohort.

I'm of the opinion that I've seen combat effective familiars (such as drakes and beholders) in novels before and so I don't think it is too much of a stretch to allow it (with restrictions) in the game...

I do think you have a point though in that familiars who are more potent in combat should be less frequent than those with less potency... thus the rules I've come up with to make such the case... but to allow those who wish to have a more potent familiar the option to do so (at an increased cost of course ;-)

Well, I for one am a fan of small subtle familiars, as opposed to big, combat munchy ones.

So I'd like to see an assortment of arthropods including but not limited to: spiders, tarantulas, scorpians, roaches, centipedes, dragonflies, house flies, wasps, bees, crabs, beetles, and so on...
Or at least just a sample or two from each type to extrapolate from.

I'd also like to see more small birds like hummingbirds, sparrows, and some kind of song bird.

And I also second the vote for the talking skull. What better familiar for a Planescape character than a mimir?

Another smart-@ss skull? So far, that's three I've heard of.

There's Morte, from Planescape: Torment

There's The Skull (formerly The Cloak), in a game I played in.

And now there is another floating, mocking skull. What is it about intelligent, annoying skulls?

Second day's Tally...

So no one took me up on the offer... okay... I'll just have to do this myself... let's see... top ten most wanted familiars are (in no particular order:

1) Centipedes
2) Racoon
3) Penguin
4) Roc
5) Monstrous Spider
6) Winterwolf
7) Kiwi
8) Animated Object (anything)
9) Pixie
10) Mephits

Honorable Mentions: Shocker Lizards, Roachs, Scorpions, Shadow Mastiff, Lantern Archon

If I'm missing onything here let me know ;-)
