What Fantasy rpg's, other than D&D, do people enjoy?

Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play and Pendragon are two of my all-time favorite RPGs.

I'll second the vote for Warhammer FRP. If only I had the time for that in addition to my D&D campaign!

I was a fan of Rolemaster for a time as well. Some of the books, such as Gamemaster Law and Treasure Companion, still are very useful for any fantasy RPG.

Restricting myself to fantasy, I'd have to say that I've spent many an entertaining hour playing White Worf's Mage: The Ascension. Shadowrun and Deadlands are also quite enjoyable.

I'm currently running The Riddle of Steel in the Midnight campaign setting. The sig has a link to the game's home page. I'd like to use TROS for a Fey Court, high fantasy game too.

Ron Edward's Sorcerer is alot of fun, game I want to run this year some time.

Ars Magica is certainly one of my all time favs, with the most dynamic magic system ever made.

Does Buffy count? Then Buffy. If not, then Buffy anyway. That game just plain rocks on toast. Even if you don't like the show, it's a good fast system.

Dark Conspiracy, Shadowrun, and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay are my favorites. It's been awhile, though, as my area is pretty much D&D and d20. I also miss Runequest and Space Opera (yes, I liked that game).

The Riddle of Steel and Exalted are both great, for completely different reasons. You can find a link to Riddle in Paka's sig. Sorcer, with the supplement Sorcerer and Sword, is supposed to be excellent, although I've never played it myself. Clinton Nixon's Donjon is also a barrel of laughs, and quite novel in some of its innovations. And then there are the standard generics--Risus, The Pool, GURPS, HERO, Tri-Stat, Action!, and so forth.

Doh. I left out HeroQuest, stupid of me to forget, really. Excellent Narrativist game set in the same world as Hero Wars, RuneQuest, and a few others--Glorantha, specifically. It's also quite portable to other settings, and there's always a discussion going on about some conversion of it or other over at RPG.Net or The Forge.

And, of course, there are about 500 free games out there...

I guess I'm willing to go deeper with this. With the plethora of, not just fantasy but, roleplaying games in general why is it that Dungeons and Dragons continues to be the #1 selling game? I for one was thinking I get all the rules for Stormbringer in one $30 book, same with Exalted as opposed to three $30 books for D&D. I know I don't have to buy Dungeons and Dragons( Once again I'm not trying to start a flame war, just pose some thoughts.) My thoughts are that it is the same price or less to try three different rpg's by most other companies. Is it that most roleplayers are unwilling to try new systems or is Dungeons and Dragons that good? Oh yeah, Exalted does rule. I'll be starting a campaign mid April, after the Players guide is released. Please I'm just curious to hear other peoples oppinions.

Is it that most roleplayers are unwilling to try new systems or is Dungeons and Dragons that good?

well, after about 15 years of role-playing in which you couldn't get me to touch D&D with a 10-foot pole, i now play d20 games exclusively. yeah, i do think it's that good.

i've played dozens and dozens of various systems over the years, but now i find i like d20 better than all of them.
