I say WoT. I don't remember Jordan ever taking 5 years to do one book and from what I hear he's buckled down with the last one. Even if he does just three more books, I think he'll beat GRRM.

Martin has to finish first...The Wheel of Time is destined to go on ad infinitum. I stopped reading after two books in a row essentially covered the same one day of time.

Of course, I imagine it must be difficult for Martin to write Feast of Crows, given what he did in the book before it (which I won't spell out to avoid spoiling it for anyone).

Has Jordan ever said there will be an end?

Yes he has, with each new book he SWEARS that there will be only two more books. this started like 3 books ago, IIRC.

Err, that's not accurate.

From about book 5 to book 9, he was saying "at least three more books" (that was certainly his stock answer). Since book 10, he's been saying "almost certainly two more books", which left the fan community quite confused, because very nearly nothing happened in book 10.

Ok, I knew it was something like that, I don't read the books so I just have a passing intrest on what he says compared to what he does.

I gave up on Jordan (and his clone, Terry Goodkind) quite some time ago. I don't think either one of them actually ever plans on finishing a series.

Martin plans to, but at the rate he's going I don't think he ever actually will.

Jordan

Not sure of Martin's schedule.

However, Knife of Dreams, the next Robert Jordan book that is due in October '05, will be the next to last Wheel of Time book.

There will be two more prequels like New Spring, but only 2 more actual Wheel of Time Books, so my vote is Jordan.

Compare that to Dave Duncan, who will drop an entire series on his editor at once. Plop!

And Tad Williams, who's Green Angel Tower in the Memory Sorrow & Thorn series was longer than the first two books put together, but he'd said that it was going to be a trilogy dammit!

To Green Angel Tower was a nice trilogy. The prequels had a bit too much of Simon wandering around lost :) .
