Personally I figure Tolkien will finish "How I won the War of the Rings: A Biography by Sam Gamgee" before either of the other two finish their respective series.

I've been predicting that there will be exactly 13 books in Jordan's series (not counting his new "prequel" books).

Given the numerology in the books, and the significance of the number, as well as the way the plot has shaken out, I'm pretty sure of this. Though I quit reading after Book 7.

Finish? What do you mean ’finish’? Aren’t we talking about Robert Jordan’s Waste of Time and George Martin’s A Soap of Ice and Fire?

To Green Angel Tower was a nice trilogy. The prequels had a bit too much of Simon wandering around lost :) .

That did get somewhat repetitive...but the last time I read the books, which was my third time through the series, that time didn't seem nearly as long.

Willams did say more in his 3/4 books though, than Jordan did in, what, 10? :)

First off, the comparison between Jordan and Goodkind is not fair. Goodkind has PUBLICALLY stated that he has no true end of his series in mind and that he concludes each book enough that he never needs to write a sequel. Jordan, on the other hand has said on numerous occasions that he knows how his story ends and even has the last chapter pretty much done. He just can't seem to get there.

Back to the point of the topic....Martin WILL be finished first. He as at most two books left. Jordan MIGHT get his epic done in two more books but he will probably write 3-4 more "preques" in between.

Accually, Martin has at least 4 more books planned. It started as a triolgy, then two triolgies, but Martin felt he needed a book to bridge the gap between them. That is the book he is working on now. I hope the reason this book is taking so long is because it was not orginally planned and the others come out in a reasonable ammount of time.

If Jordan actually finishes his series, will anyone actually care? People at least still seem interested in GRRM's stuff (If frustrated over the delay).

I was a lot more interested in Martin's work till he copped out that it was the politics of America that were interferring in his work.

either way, I'm a sucker so I'll buy 'em when they come out.

Will not buy the prequels for Wheel of Time though, even at $9.95.

You need a "Who cares, I'm no longer interested in either because they're both taking too dad-blasted long" option in the poll.

Actually, from what I've heard, Terry Goodkind has stated that Chainfire (the newest Sword of Truth novel) will be the first book in a trilogy that will end the series. So it looks like there are two more Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind on the way (meaning that the entire series will be 11 novels).
